Uncorrectable to 20/20

I've been searching all over the internet for an answer to my question, but can't find a whole lot. So here goes...

I am currently a junior, enrolled in NROTC. Up until a few months ago, I planned on going aviation and went in for PRK at a local office. While I was there, I found out I was not correctable to 20/20 (I think I was 20/25 in both eyes). This past week, I went to Norfolk for a flight physical and they, of course, found the same thing and told me to forget about getting an aviation slot. Not a good day.

I talked to my advisor, and it turns out that because I am not correctable to 20/20, I don't even qualify or Nuke or SWO...which means that, technically, I cannot be commissioned. So here's my question: can I get a waiver for my vision and go Nuke/SWO? If not, can I go restricted line? If still not, can I enlist or switch to another service? I don't exactly have $180,000 in my bank account. If it helps, I'm an Mechanical Eng. major with a 3.6 GPA, and in good health otherwise. Thanks for any help.

When you say "not correctable to 20/20", do you mean not correctable with PRK, or not correctable at all (even with glasses/contacts)?

Either way, you may also be interested in this thread and the followups.

Even if the vision isn't correctable to 20/20 (and aviation aside), it appears that vision not correctable to 20/20, while "disqualifying", is still waiverable.

I'm not an authority on any of this, and I'm sure folks much more knowledgeable than I will weigh in. Good luck.
