I just started at the FBO here in Colorado Springs. Figured it'd be a good "in the meantime" job while I'm waiting to reapply to OCS.
Anyways, my second day on the line and a new F-18F comes rolling through from St. Louis. It was a VFA-122 jet, #120. The pilot is the chief test pilot for McD-D. Man was it a sweet machine!!!!! I got to refuel it and help launch it, which means I basically stood around as he ran up and left. But hey...I was right there with it! Made me drool!!
Then today I'm inside and this guy walks in fully geared up, I recognized him from a video of the EF-18F first flight(if anyone has it, he's the darkhaired pilot). I forgot his name already, but when I mentioned my desire to become a Naval Aviator, he proceeded to talk to me for a while, shook my hand, wished me luck, and took off for Lemoore in another VFA-122 jet, #112 I think.
They both are heading to Lemoore, where Navy boys are will ferry them to Malaysia(spelling?) for an air show. Thats a long haul if you ask me.
In three days of work I've seen a B-17, 4 F-16s, the 2 18's, and a buttload of business jets.
I'm thinking I made a good choice for a "in the meantime" job.
