Tuition Assistance Debt

Ok so here I am getting "tuition assistance debt" withdrawn from my pay. Does anyone know how to go about correcting this?

Before everyone says that this should have been corrected before it got to this point, both myself and my YNC have tried.

The command has received numerous letters of indebtedness regarding 2 courses I withdrew from due to TAD orders. I was living out of a tent for 3 weeks of an 8 week course so I had no chance of completion. To make a long story short, the paperwork from my command has been sent in stating that I was withdrawn due to involuntary orders many times. I personally have faxed and snail mailed them in assuming there was a disconnect in my admin department. Needless to say, I no longer feel the disconnect is on our end. This past month I looked at my LES and saw the deduction and was floored.

I have also emailed the listed address on the navy college center website and not received a response. My YNC said since it is being deducted he no longer can do anything about it. I feel that the Navy is not trying to correct this issue and I do not know what steps to take next. Monday I am going to speak with my YNC and see if the CO or legal officer should be the next step. It seems Pensacola just wants to keep their hands in my pockets.

Anybody ever run into this issue before? I really just wanted to blow off steam as well. Lucky for me the command knows this is not my fault cause I am also picking up my CO's recommendation Monday.

Time to go above your YNC's head if he has written you off (it was probably time to do that a while ago)...send snail mail Certified so it must be signed for; send e-mail via navy.mil account with receipt acknowledgement activated on it; and don't leave the office until you get the answer you need...

Contacted with no reply, numbers listed are faxes. ;)

If they would answer emails this may not be so tough.

How rude! I couldn't believe that all 3 numbers were faxes, and sure as sh!t they are.

What has you local Navy College office said? Maybe they have better contact numbers?

I just called the 850-452-1001 number (from the next section down) and option 2 is the TA Customer Service desk. It seems like the same office because the message said to contact them at the sfly_ta.navy@navy.mil address after hours.

I just got 750 bucks taken out of my last paycheck for TA Debt as well. I called the Education Headquarters in Pensacola, FL. and they said that I didn't report a grade for a math class that I took back in 2006 when I was still enlisted. So, they said just send them a copy of my transcripts and highlight the math class in question and they will give back the 750 bones. I thought it was crap that after 3 years they catch that and take it out of my pay without even telling me.

YGTBSM !!! Whatever ass clown is responsible for this I would hunt down and beat with an ugly stick. I can see giving a warning or two. But unilaterally taking action with no warning is UNSAT. It's NOT how we treat officers in any service. Find them and hurt them . . . .

Just adding my 2 cents here becuase I had a similar situation..only my command was alot more helpful...

Back in 2003 I was taking a few classes at FCCJ while I was stationed on the JFK. While we were in the yards our working hours got extended to roughly 13hr days. Due to this I was no longer permitted by my division to continue going to class. A few months later I started to get those letters just as you did. My educational services/admin officer wrote me and a few other sailors a letter to the college and Pensacola explaining the situation.... Much like you It was no dice with P-cola for quite some time..

Ultimately I had to call up navy college personally and baby-walk my paperwork through.. I took the signed letter from my E.O. got on the tele with navy college.. told them I am faxing it right now... faxed it and listened for their fax machine to recieve it.. A bit redundant I know but it got the job done... Keep in mind this was 2003 I don't know if the same people are working there or not. Just wanted to add my input
