When I went to Juniors, they flew me out there. When i go back for seniors, can i drive out there (from the west coast) and fill out a travel claim and get reimbersed (cents/mile or something). I would like to have my car out there cause i'll be staying after i'm done. Anybody?

Yep... I drove home from OCS and got reimbursed. Not much reimbursement, but reimbursement nonetheless (50?). Will you be going directly to TBS or just "staying after you're done"? Not sure who you would go through, I guess Quantico TMO. I filled my reimbursement form out at my OSOs office after I got back.

OVERCOME -- what did you have to do to get your money? Fill out a travel claim with your OSO, OCS admin, or who. I'll be staying for TBS yes

You must fly to juniors. It's part of the screw of the PLC juniors/seniors route. Not only are you fortunate enough to ship and pick-up twice, but you have to fly both times (I'm not sure why west coasters would get to drive, CORPSviation?). I would drive back in a heart beat if given the go ahead.

Check out the JFTR (Joint Federal Travel Regulations) on goggle. It states the rules for all travel related pay. I believe the answer is you can drive and receive gov't reimbursement if it is more advantagous to the gov't (meaning if it is cheaper paying you 37.5 cents/mile from CA or buying you an airplane ticket...something tells me it's gonna be cheaper for them flying you there....

Thats strange b/c i hear all these people saying that it is good to have your car with you when liberty rolls around. But how can you do that if flying is mandatory, dont tell me that if you REALLY wanted your car then you would have to pay to have it shipped to you, that would suck.

Long live the UFC!
I filled out my travel claim with my OSO.... I got the check in the mail about two months later. And just an FYI for whoever is reading.... Keep a personal log book that includes all travel receipts (food, gas, lodging) and other relevant information just in case there is a problem of any kind. A buddy of mine had some paperwork problems and ended up having to fill everything out again once he got to his final duty station. He received his money, but he had to wait over a year.

What has anyone heard about taking a car if your PLC but going to the 10 week OCS?

If you aren't allowed to take a car on base, are you allowed to drive you car, leave it somewhere off base (relatives, ect).

Kinda going with the above question, i had heard that you HAVE to fly if you are PLC. Is this true?
