TLA vs. BAH

I was looking at my LES and saw a mix up. My BAH was Negative. I am trying to figure out the mix up for when I talk to PSD.

I got here Late Dec and was in BOQ til Jan 26 getting TLA. I rented a place Jan 16 though I didnt get to move in til the 25th.

So can I get TLA and BAH at the same time? Or only one at a time?

I figure I should AT LEAST get BAH prorated from the 26th on. At best get cash from both :icon_smil

I didn't read that link so sorry if I cover this twice, but yes, you can get TLE (not TLA, that's only for overseas) and BAH at the same time.

Say you check into P-cola on the 1st but you don't have an apartment to live in yet. So, you get a hotel room and then sign a lease and move in on the 5th. You'd get TLE, which would reimburse you for your hotel rooms, plus your BAH would start at the P-cola rate as of the 1st (the day you checked in). TLE is authorized for up to 10 days after arrival at your new command.

I'd be curious to know what kind of allowance you were getting from late Dec till 26 Jan. It is possible it could've been TLE, just a mix up on PSD's part. If that's the case, you can expect that they'll want back the money you were paid for it. However, for that length of time I might tend to think it was BAH-II instead.

Alright I am too lazy to delete everything I just wrote, but I just reviewed it and realized that your question was already answered and what I just said has absolutely nothing to do with your question.

I am not sure this applies, but PSD did some re-working in Pensacola and a lot of people were having money taken back from their accounts, at least everyone who reported after November. People who reported before November weren't affected, but people after were apparently the victim of some new PSD policy. Since pilots are TDY, they recieve a TDY allowance now, something like $500 a month instead of BAH for living (Approx $1000 for Pensacola) like they used too. One rumor I heard for this reason, mind you the rumor mill is always turning, is that PSD figured it was losing money since SNAs were rooming together and were pocketing a large amount of cash intended to offset rent payments or on a larger scale anyone who was TDY without per diem. I am not sure exactly the conditions surrounding your situation, but if you moved from an area that had a higher BAH than Ohau (don't know where unless SOCAL) and PSD took awhile to change over your pay specifics, then they will deduct the difference once PSD Honolulu enters you into their system. I hope this helps somewhat. My experience with PSD is that it is a dark void where you leave with more questions than answers.
