Time Off

I was wondering if anyone knew how the transitons from OCS to API to primary and soforth work. For example do you usually get a break after you get commissioned, before you go to API.

I'm wondering the same thing myself. I've heard that you may get ten days off automatically to get "things" in order. Of course, the transition depends on how backed up the program is. Don't know if this is true or not, but the API wait usually, is not as long as waits to other schools.

There are so many variables that no one answer will be the right one. The day you get commissioned and graduate from OCS you go over to schools command and check in for API. The wait to class up for API can vary depending on many different things, where you want to go to primary, the time of year and the alignment of the planets. (that last one is just a theory of mine) If you have a wait you may get stashed somewhere to do some menial task like checking IDs or mustering all of the nub ensigns. During this time you can also ask for leave. You will earn 7.5 days during your time in OCS. More if you spend more time there. If you graduate around the holidays, you might get time off for that. So to make the picture more opaque. There is no right or wrong answer. The best thing to do, is to count on getting no time off, then talk to the flight management office during your last couple of weeks in OCS and find out what kind of 'good deal' you can get. Remember if you don't ask, the answer is always NO.

What is the flight management office? I was wondering if there was some sort of navy dept to help with flying.

Flight management, my old home. It is basicaly the student control of API, they set up the class lists, keep students under control, do leave papers, and anything else associated with API students. Usually there is a 5-7 week wait to class up for API, you can take leave at this time, but don't let yourself go into the hole (negative days) or you won't be going any where for christmas. API will allow a max of 10 days in the hole, that is it. If you want you can take 10 days after OCS (7.5 you earned plus go in the hole 2.5 days). If i were you, i wouldn't do that, wait until the holidays. As far as leave time between API and primary, that depends on the squadron you get. Some squadrons do not allow for leave due to poor student performance from previous classes. Some squadrons do let you take leave if you have a wait? all depends. keep watching thoes planets.
