Anyone shooting these? Buying my AR lower got me interested in shooting these type matches, especially since I have the other two requisite guns needed. If you have, what did you like/dislike, and how competitive are they?

Any matches around the Jax area, I'd like to at least go check one out to get a feel for them.

Ive gone... never again.

You'll meet more Green Berets, Rangers, and Delta Snipers, at a 3 gun competition than at Ft Bragg.... It seems like a great idea. But there are so many tool bags walking around with 3000 dollars in weapons and not 20 dollars in worthwhile training that it just gave me a headache. Its like what would happen if the 15 year old cockbag that plays too much call of duty 4 grew up and had several thousand dollars just sitting around and a Napoleon Complex.

So to summerize, the shooting was fun the people were insufferable.

Now Cowboy 3 gun.... Im interested in giving that a shot some time if I can find somebody with the gear to borrow before dumping my money heart and soul into it.

Got the same review from some of the guys that I shoot with (who are a lot better than me, and are professional trigger pullers).

Some people there just want to shoot and have fun. The people who win those things are fags with thousands in "race guns" and no practical shooting knowledge or training.

If you are looking for a place to shoot in SD, there is a gun club and outdoor range east of Chula Vista (way east, past the Olympic training center and drop zone).

Never shot in one but from what I've seen and heard I don't think I'd like USPSA much. I'm not much of a racegun type of guy.

Most of the three guns shoots I've been to have been more of the lets have fun and learn something variety. I shoot at two different places in Western NC and both are similar. Once a month they host anywhere from 15-30 shooters of all skill levels. There is always the same very competitive group there to be sure. They come to win but they also seem to welcome new shooters and go out of their way to be sure you are safe, have fun and learn something.

You see all kinds of weapons but unlike USPSA it doesn't seem to get too complicated or expensive. Mostly you see auto shotguns with extended mag tubes, AR's with EOTech or Aimpoint and Glocks or 1911's. (good triggers and maybe beveled mag wells too). I shot the first several meets with an 870, a stock Glock 19 and an AR/EOTech. Now I shoot the same Glock 19 with a 3.5lb trigger, an FN SLP and the same AR/EOTech. I don't win but I do ok. The best part is that I shoot three gun with the same guns I'd use to defend myself with if it ever came to that.

I shoot a little IDPA as well and I find the same kind of people and pistols at those meets as I do with three gun.

Wouldn't suprise me a bit if I had a completely different experience in another area of the country.

That's kinda the concern I've gathered from reading the interwebs. The shooting looks like it could be a ton of fun but if dealing with douchenozzels it required, I'll just stick to knocking down steel plates on my own.

That said, I may still try and find one just to witness it first hand.

No shit ... that's why I stopped doing them @ 15 years ago and quit USPSA... so many cowboy-Ranger-SWAT-wannabe assholes ... so little time.

Coastal Bend Shooters

I've been going off and on to Coastal Bend Shooters here in Corpus, they're a great bunch of guys. I know there's been one or two over the years that were waaaay too much and they were law enforcement to boot.

You guys know me, I hate douche bags and posers and I haven't had one problem with the Coastal Bend Shooter guys as a group.

How is that place? I've been doing the Monday thing at The Sharp Shooter, but shooting my AR15 and M14 indoors really sucks. The lighting is so shitty that I can't see through my NM rear ap at all.

I'd get to the next carbine match on their schedule. Just show up and say you're new, they'll welcome you with open arms. I didn't have a carbine and had only been going for the IDPA stuff (USPSA and race guns are gay), and one of the guys there invited me to come "anytime" and as much as I wanted to with the open offer to use his carbine.
