First, I apologize for this being so long, but I had to get this out and hope it makes sense.
So, sitting here before my gym session really had me thinking more about today. First, I want to take the time out and say THANK YOU to all of you that are currently or have served at one point or another.
It's a shame but this day has never meant much to me as a kid, nor did I really understand the importance of it. It was just another day off from school or whatever. As I'm older, and I'd like to believe wiser, today has taken on more of a meaning, especially now. Even though both parents were marines and I have family in the AF (numerous family members), still I never sat down to understand the importance of today and how thankless of a job it is to be serving in any branch of the military.
Now as I'm hopefully on the verge of joining all of you guys in the fight and doing what I can serve my country proudly, I come to a better understanding of how much bigger all of this is and how selfish I was and ashamed I am that I did not come to this realization sooner. It especially hit home now that I have one of my best friends serving in Afghanistan right now with the Marines. He's been one of my primary sources of motivation for joining and he has been a constant encouragement up to this point.
Anyways, I say all that to say this. Saying "thank you" to me just doesn't seem like its enough at all. At this point however, it is all I can do, until I am given the opportunity to serve alongside all of you and do my part to uphold my position as an Officer (hopefully) and express my gratitude to all of you by doing what is necessary to defend our country as well. I've come to know many of you on here over the past several months and I've learned many things about myself and about what I'm getting ready to embark upon....and my excitement grows everyday. I look forward to meeting and learning from many of you in the future as well.
So thank you, thank you, and thank you all again and please believe that many of you had a hand in showing me why the path I am on currently is the right path and I couldn't be happier to be a part of it at this point. I look forward to proudly serving alongside you guys.
