First off, after a bit of searching I came up with a good source for cockpit photos. Got this one: http://www.dfrc.nasa.gov/gallery/photo/T-34C/Medium/EC97-44065-2.jpg

Anyone been through primary recently? Is this accurate or a 30 year old file photo? :D

2nd - From navygouge.com I got the EP flashcards. Same question. Current? I'd like to get hold of a -1, eh, sorry, NATOPS but only to verify the bold face procedures. (I promise not to try and study too much, and will drink beer and relax prior to starting Primary. Just EP's and maybe a tad o' systems so I know what the EP's are talking about.) Looked for it from Raytheon, no dice. Other source?

I've come to appreciate the more user-friendly program for Primary I have been assigned to at Whiting. After being an enlisted flyer for over 7 years in the AF, I think my biggest issue with the Navy program will be learning what to call everything. :eek:

Yeah dude, that's an older picture. No GPS, no NACWS, etc.

I'll sell you my primary systems book, man.

They won't give you a NATOPS until you start primary? What's up w/ that? They piled all our books (minus the RI stuff) on us the first chance they got in Corpus. Don't feel bad, though, because I'm here for advanced, and they won't give me a NATOPS or a pcl either. Bastards.

That's a valuable link, Kray. There's stuff in some of those pubs that can be nice to look at down the road in the fleet, like before an instrument check, and there's a way to look at it.

Yeesh. They gave me all my books before I classed up, but that was over a year ago . . .

If you're at Whiting swing by MATSG (2nd deck of the Wing) and pick up their EP and procedure flashcards. I think both sets cost under $10 total. Very good investment. I'd be very wary of using navygouge.com; some stuff is good but the site is out of date and I'd be willing to bet the EPs are a few NATOPS changes behind as well.

The flashcards from MATSG are definitely worth the investment. They were not only nice to have at the beginning of primary, but it was nice to have the ones that applied directly for the brief you were about to have, and to go over them for about 30 minutes to an hour beforehand. They should serve you well from the CPT's through PA's.

Throughout my primary training so far, I have kept navygouge.com as one of my sources of information. It's fairly easy to pick out the stuff that's out of date as long as you also look at your other sources of info. Basically, you should be able to get most of your information about a particular briefing item from your pubs, and often navygouge.com will supply you with a couple of other tidbits you might not have in your pubs, or just didn't see the first time through. I definitely would not rely on navygouge.com alone. Just keep it in your list of places to check out. There's my take.

Hey I used to be in the AF a weapons guy, then a boom...I have a few friends that are AC130 and 53 gunners..I'm pretty sure we know some of the same people...
When do you start primary? I'll see what I can dig up and send it your way. Don't forget to look at www.bryanweatherup.com It's geared more for Corpus but there is still some good stuff on the website

Sweet, thanks for the info fellas. I had a feeling about that cockpit photo. That link is money, thanks especially for that! I'm not really jonesin' for this stuff yet, I'm still a ways out from starting. Just trying to get some references in order for when I do. Was wondering about the photo for currency. Taking even a peek (almost) every day at a good pic I think would help with reference down the road. Plus, I'm a gunner here folks. Pictures...goooood. (That, and "pointy-end first" pretty much get me through life at this job. :D )

Piper - Yup, I would bet we know a few of the same folks. I don't know too many guys across the ramp with the 53's though. When I was weapons I was on B-1's out at Dyess. 96-98. For those quick at math, that does indeed make me the grandpa at pilot training.

Wow... Now I feel old... Navygouge.com was the poop when I went through, and now it's outdated... Not to mention that my reaction to the T-34 picture was, "ah, no NACWS"... What's a GPS? Just kidding... Man I'm getting old...

Well the sims here in Corpus still don't have NACWS :icon_tong , so don't feel that old.

I had a similar pic of a T-34 cockpit prior to starting primary. I used it to practice for just about every flight. I put a chair in front of it and went through the motions of the flight, the entire flight, in that chair.
