Ok, I just came hom and was wandering around the driveway when I saw a T-34 (or something that looks very much like it)fly over my house and then turn back towards the airport. For those of you in or familiar with hawaii, I live on waialae nui so I have a pretty clear view of planes going past all day long yet I've never seen one of these. It had the elongated canopy of the T-34, the orange markings and the star+stripes of military aircraft yet I don't see why a training aircraft would be out here. Can somebody help me out with this one?

Some fixed wing squadrons and air stations have T-34s for proficiency and/or range safety/spotting aircraft.

Phrogdriver, would the air national guard have them? That's all we have aside from some new AF air lift wing.

Maybe they were reenacting Pearl Harbor and it was playing the role of a Val or Betty : )

I saw a B-1 today. Now THAT was freaky. AHHH they're bombing my campus! Friendly fire!

I think that was an old piston powered T-34B. I used to live out there and I knew a retired Navy guy that was restoring one. I guess he finally got it working.

www.b17.org you can get a ride in a restored B-17 for 400 clams... pretty steep but that's history man, can't put a price on that experience

I'll have to keep my eye open for the T-34, but I suspect that Q-Ball is right. It's probably a "B." I would imagine he'll probably be at the airshow that's coming up in Nov/Dec timeframe.

As far as I know, it's for all services, but it will be held at Hickham (I think). Not sure if we'll have a bird there though, but I would think the P-3 guys will. That's about it on the Navy side.

Why do we need an airshow? I mean, we already got to see all those wicked cool...uhm...transports? AF needs some cooler stuff to show off or at least out here it does.

^ Yeah, the flew in the show. That's it. Although the Air National Guard Eagle pilot that was there was a pretty funny guy. I asked him why the Eagle had a hook on it and his response was a very unsure, "Uhm...well, if we can't take off or stop for some reason they say it's supposed to save us..." he takes a moment to turn and look at it, "that's the theory anyway."
