Well today was the first day I did a couple laps in the pool since I was little...well I shouldn't say a couple laps more like one and a half (the pool was about 50 yards). I really don't have that olympic type style of swimming but it gets me to the 50 yards, and when I was finished I was drained. To be honest I really don't care too much for the pool and I'de rather run 10 miles than do 100 yards in a pool. And considering I'm about to go back to school I really don't have much time to work on my swimming.
I was wondering if someone could tell me whether or not I have a whole lot to worry about when it comes time for ocs. I mean I really did good on my prt's and now that I jumped in the pool I found my weak spot! Oh,and is it true that in API you get to chose whether you want to do the run or swim for PRT's. Thanks in advance

Yep, ditto what Matt just said. Get on the web and do a search for some various swim training programs. Then get in the pool and start swimming. If you have trouble with the various strokes, take some lessons (at the local YMCA perhaps, or even your school). You'll be ready for the Olympics before you know it. Remember, however, that in the end, it isn't how long or how far you can swim (just so long you can swim a mile). It is about being comfortable in the water. Good luck!

I totally agree with Matt and Steve. About two months ago, I was not even comfortable with the thought of swimming but that all changed. I knew that I had to learn and there was no way around it. Just like you, I don't care much for swimming but it is just something you have to be good at before you even get in the cockpit. I am taking summer classes right now and I signed up for a "Beginning Swimming" course. The instructor was very helpful and in less than two weeks, I was doing laps. Trust me, it is not hard at all, I guess it also depends on the teacher. I even practiced by myself by trespassing (don't recommend it) to a pool in a nearby apartment complex. Just make sure you don't go too deep unless you know you can swim back. Practice, Practice, Practice and you should find yourself becoming more proficient at swimming and more comfortable in the water.

HEY GUYS,
Thanks alot for all your replies. I have been in the pool just about every day just swimming laps. And some guy there has helped me on my breathing techniques and strokes and before I knew it I was swimming 200 yard laps. It's not the best but it is progress (from barely being able to swim 25 yards). I find now that my problem is not my technique it's just I need to get in better shape cause the only thing is I just get tired at about 150 yards. Usually I do 50 yards freestyle and 50 yards backstroke, then I do intervals of 50 yards swimming laps switching from freestyle to backstroke about every 5 strokes. I read that this helps improve your stroke.

Does anyone else know of any workout tips!
