"You can't make this shit up..."
With Webmaster's approval, I'd like to introduce a non-profit organization that may interest the audience here on Air Warriors. I founded this organization in 2015 along with Mark “Mutha” Hubbard, retired Commodore from SFWP. Along with his current commercial endeavors, Mutha is an avid warbird pilot qualified on the F6F Hellcat and F4U Corsair.

Here is some background and information on how you can help. Our biggest challenge is raising awareness of the program and widening our audience of prospective donors. Please share this info with anyone you think would be interested. I can answer any questions you mat have.

What is a Navy Tailhook Legacy Flight? Sanctioned by Commander, Naval Air Forces, the Navy Tailhook Legacy Flight program serves to “vividly demonstrate the rich history of Naval Aviation to the civilian community, other military services and members of the Naval establishment both familiar and unfamiliar wit h our Naval Aviation heritage.” Each flight is comprised of an active duty navy tailhook aircraft and a civilian vintage naval warbird flying in formation. This formation is a visual representation of the rich tradition and history that is United States Naval Aviation, a tradition that spans over 100 years; from World War I to current day conflicts around the globe.

What is NTLFF? Navy Tailhook Legacy Flight Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation founded in 2015 with the mission of restoring Navy Tailhook Legacy flights to the air show circuit. Tailhook Legacy flights have not been flown since 2012, the year prior to sequestration. The resources are not available to allow the Navy to contribute to supporting these flights. NTLFF was founded to be a civilian funding source for the U.S. Navy Tailhook Legacy Flight Demonstration. The goal of the foundation is to provide funding, resources and leadership to facilitate vintage naval tailhook aircraft and their crews flying formation demonstration flights with current active duty naval tailhook aircraft.

Why donate? Donations made to the Foundation will finance warbird aircraft flights to and from events and will also enable the warbird crews to train alongside the active duty aviators with whom they will be flying these demonstrations. Recent budget constraints have impacted the Navy's ability to support training. In addition, the distances traveled by the warbirds to air shows have an associated maintenance and fuel/oil cost that is not covered by air shows or the Department of Defense. The instability of the DoD budget process has kept the Tailhook Legacy Flight program grounded since 2012. NTLFF is the cornerstone of the civilian side of the program, dedicated to ensuring Navy Tailhook Legacy Flights can continue with or without DoD augments.

What will my donation accomplish? Your donation will help finance the mandatory training needed to qualify the civilian pilots who will participate in the Navy Tailhook Legacy Flight program. Each warbird pilot must attend annual training with the active duty aircrew whom they will fly during the air show season. Once the civilian and military pilots are qualified, your donations will also provide necessary funding to fly the warbird aircraft to and from air shows. These vintage warbird aircraft are operated by individuals, museums and other non-profit organizations. The aircraft are very costly to maintain in flying condition and also very costly to operate. Donations from concerned citizens like you are the only source of funding that will keep this program alive. In addition to supporting the Navy warbird community, NTLFF promotes the history of Naval Aviation and the rich traditions that have carried it through the years. Through the use of electronic media, NTLFF provides access to information on the various events, aircrew, personnel and aircraft that are part of the Navy Tailhook Legacy Program. We feature current photos, as well as exclusive information about the aircraft and the pilots who perform the Navy Tailhook Legacy Flight. Finally, we promote public awareness of this outstanding program, maintain traditions for the next generations and provide information about career opportunities in Naval Aviation.
