Combating TIP training AGAIN?!
Are there any Middies or OC's been that have been able to study abroad? I briefly talked to the XO of my unit and he said it was a possiblity.

Yes, people did it in my NROTC unit all the time back when I was in college.

PM flygrl88.....she's from my unit and is currently abroad. Hopefully she doesn't mind me speaking for her, but she was able to go b/c of her major (international business I believe). It requires a term of study abroad. There was also a mid from my 2/c cruise who went abroad for a year to Germany. I don't really know the details of his situation, but it is definitely a possibility.

Very possible...if your school provides programs, you are likely eligible for a few...and there is also this....

The Olmsted Foundation also provides grants exclusively to Midn/Cadets for independent study abroad...I'll see if I can find a link for you.

This is their main page. I didn't see any specific information about the grant I was telling you about, however, I'm sure that if you contact them they would be able to give you some information. The page is primarily geared towards Olmsted Scholars. Additionally, your unit may already have some info on this as it is not a new program, so I would ask there as well.

RADM Marsh, one of the foundations directors, came to Cornell to brief us up on the Foundation's work and reminded us about this program. Good stuff. Sorry I couldn't get anything much more specific for you. Good luck.

Yes, I went abroad Junior year. It's pretty easy actually. I sent a chit up to CNET telling them where I wanted to go and why. I actually saved the Navy over $4,000 by going abroad. I know several mids in my unit that have gone abroad. You just have to double up on Naval Science classes one semester and believe me, it's worth it.
