My wife and I are going to drive down to watch the shuttle launch early Sunday morning. I figure this will be my last chance to see a night shuttle launch, so I better go or I'll be kicking myself. For the guys on here who have made the trip to see it launch, where did you view it from? I guess the 2 popular sites are sold out. Any suggestions on where to watch it from? Thanks.

Titusville. At the space park. Get there early, like 2+ hours before launch. Bring an iPod and some snacks and a good camera/tripod/telephoto lens if you have one...anything else is just going to show an orange streak going toward the sky. There's an unobstructed view across the water all the way to the launch pad; it's not the closest (appx 13 miles I believe), but you have to pay to get closer and those spots have obstructed views where you don't see the shuttle until it's cleared the tower. Good call on going to see one; I made the trip twice, and saw the last night launch. Pretty incredible.

Edit: here's a good site: http://www.titusville.com/Page.asp?NavID=207

This sucks a fatty. Its 530 am and the launch was scrubbed here an hour ago for weather. We have been unable to move from our parking spot that we were in to watch the launch. Once we finally get out of the spot then a two hour drive home. At least we tried.

Same experience as you. A couple people from my class and I went down (left at midnight) and parked along the causeway. We would have had an awesome view. After the cancellation, we weren't able to leave our parking spot until after 6 am. Got home about 8:30ish. I then passed out until 1. Good thing I'm not on the schedule tomorrow since my body is now completely whacked out.

Thats exacly what happened to us. Finally left at around 6 and got home at 8:15. We may have been parked really close to each other, from what it sounds like.

Look what I can do!!
I had a great view from where I was, right by the north cargo ship piers. Too bad the launch didn't go.
