Sedona and T-34's

Hey all, I was flying my Varga Kachina VG-2180 into Flagstaff Arizona a couple of weeks ago and happened to hear a Navy flight of two T-34’s landing at Sedona (SEZ). Then last Friday evening another flight of two T-34’s took the active while I was inbound to SEZ. I was just wondering if it is common during primary flight to fly into SEZ? It is a great experience flying in there, just wondering.

A lot of guys from Corpus go to Vegas for XCs. Maybe Sedona is a refueling stop along the way.

I stopped there in a 44 to get gas on the way to North Island. Pretty common thing for Corpus types (34, 44, and C-12).

It was a stop for me on my primary XC from whiting to north island... I think we did VNAVs up there.

Yup. It's pretty well advertised among the IPs that it's a cool place to stop. Basically landing on the edge of a mountain. Haven't made it there, myself, but it sounds like a cool stop.

Yeah it is the most amazing place I have flew into by far. I recommend it highly, and the restaurant up there is pretty good. Here is a cool pic of the place. Runway 21 has a 500’ drop-off on the approach end.

T-34's in Sedona

I was actually in that flight of T-34's taking off last Friday from SEZ. I think I saw you entering a right downwind for 21 as we were departing to the North. We were in route to Vegas from Corpus Christi and it was an intermediate stop for gas along the way. Yes, it was pretty cool landing there with all the surrounding landscape and to see how the airport actually sits up on the mesa like that. It was a very unique experience landing there to say the least.

It is the best place to get gas on the way to vegas, hands down. I've *cough* heard *cough* that the airport setup (ie location on a frickin mountain, runway width etc..) can put you in a position to overshoot, due to the sight picture, if its you and your IP's first trip there. Consider yourself warned.

Did you go to Cheetahs? Best lap dances in Vegas.

Yeah it was me entering on the right downwind. Wish I would have gotten there a bit earlier to check out the 34’s. They did look awesome climbing out though.
