Ok, just trying to get an indication of what the schedule looks like at Primary, as well as if there is a delay between API and Primary? Any information would be great, the more recent the better...

What do you mean by schedule? It changes daily. Or do you mean the general flow of training (IE- BI's, RI's, Fams, etc.)?

Marines have a history of little to no wait for primary, and since it looks like you're going to hit it right at the beginning of the fiscal year, I'd expect to begin promptly. I did primary in Corpus, and had exactly 3 days from when I checked-in until I started.

I"m in Primary at CC, and had 4 days between report and starting.

You'll have 2 weeks of ground school. Then you'll go to CPTs (Sims) After that, VT-28 has been doing the first 6 FAMs, then 4 BI Sims then finishing FAMs, but it's all according to WX

In Whiting the trend has been a varying wait depending on your service, but when you start you can expect 2 1/2 weeks of Ground School with CPT's in there. First 4 Fam flights, All of the BI sims and flights, rest of Fam's, PA's, Form's, and then RI's. Or so I've seen, hope that helps.

VT-27 at Corpus seems to follow the same flow as Whiting. The only real difference being that ground school lasts two weeks and then CPTs will take you at least another week. You do FAM 0 thru FAM 5 before jumping into the BIs, finish all the BIs, and then the rest of the FAMs. Then PAs, Forms, and RIs, with the two night flights squeezed in wherever is convenient for the schedule.

still you must be flexible..while in 27 I did RIs THEN did PAs and then went to FORMs. it was a little out of the norm but it happened.

Can someone explain what type of flights the FAM, PA, Forms, RI, etc. are.

FAM - familiarization flights..how to fly the airplane and land it safely pretty much sums it up

PA - Precision Aerobatics..a few flights with some solos

FORMS - formation flights with a formation solo

RIs - Radio Instruments....all about flying instruments

OK i just checked into trawing 4 (corpus christi) on the 22 of august. I classed up with my squadron that friday and then started ground school on the 29th. After ground school . I finished ground school (systems and weather) two weeks later and am now waiting to start sims..was supposed to be last friday but the sims (cpts) are still slightly backed up. I was on standby yesterday and will probably do cpt 2001 (first sim) tomorrow or friday...if you are coming expect no delay as the backlog is being fixed finally...however as you will be arriving in the fall...good luck getting out of here in 6 months..it could be 8-9 cause the weather gets bad and you cant do fams in IMC conditions....that was word from the XO..hope that helps

That was, by far, the best time I had in all of flight school. I was out there Jan and Feb of '04, outstanding flying, not to mention best Mexican food around.

I heard nothing but good things about those dets. When I left the 28 CO said they were trying to work another one, but as you alluded to, the funding is short, what with the war, fuel costs, and now Katrina.

Just one more question, thanks for all the info so far, do students fly on weekends or just during the week typically?
