Save Money on Electricity in Corpus

Wanted to get this info out to everyone currently in, or coming to, Corpus. You have a wealth of options as to who provides you your electricity. Finding a list of them was not as easy as I think it should be. I got this list from Hunters Cove Apt complex down in Kingsville....but it applies to Corpus as well. I personally went with GEXA....but I did not have the patience to call all of the providers. If you already have another provider setup, you can switch at any time with a phone call.

This is a list of Residential electric providers registered with the Public Utility Commission of Texas.

Gexa: 866-961-9399

Entergy Solutions, Ltd: 877-839-5444

CPL Retail Energy (Booooo.Hsssss.) 866-322-5563

First Choice Power Inc.: 866-469-2464

Green Mountain Energy Co. (For all the Hippies out there ) 886-473-3689

Reliant Energy Retail Services: 800-736-3749

Texas Commercial Energy LLC : 866-796-0990

Texas Utilities Energy Services: 877-460-7066

Utility Choice Electric: 866-839-2782

WTU Retail Energy: 866-322-5563

Xcel Energy Retail Services: 800-481-4700

You should be able to shop around and find the best price.....I called several and they were not even close to GEXA, but I was to lazy to call them all and deal with the 10-15 min of "holding" that was required.

I cannot stress/agree with that statement enough. THEY SUCK. Not only are their rates high, they outsource their billing to another company... IE CPL's customer service is not capable of doing one bit of servicing when it comes to your bill.

Great thread Pcola!

Double post from another thread, but still relevant I think (also agree that CPL bites):

We had CPL when we first got there (~$300 bill for three months straight), then switched to GEXA (<$200 per month).

The thing about electricity in Texas is that the companies appear to have divided up the lines so that each company maintains a certain area, regardless of who the people in that area have chosen. For instance, we picked CPL when we first arrived, but it was a different company who came and hooked up our electricity (can't remember who, but we were on the island). To make a long story short, it doesn't matter who you pick, the same peole will be maintaining the lines around your house.

Bottom line, some of the companies try to sell themselves as providing a better quality of service ... horses**t, it's all about where you live, and if you seach the companies for the cheapest rates (on that website) you'll get the exact same level of service.

Hope that wasn't too confusing, just sat through hours of lecture ...

in case u haven't figured from the previous posts: CPL is poop.
i just switched from CPL to GEXA. not sure what the service difference is, but if GEXA is even average, then it'll be head and shoulders over CPL.

all that being said, it should be less expensive.
