Whatsup fellas,
As I have heard and what I'm sure all of you who have been to OCS can attest to is the fact that you run A LOT. Running also is a part of your PRT and can be one hell of a workout in general. Unfortunately if you are in my position (3rd year college student) OCS may be a ways away and you may find it difficult to motivate yourself to train (or at least run as much as you should).
I used to not be much of a runner myself, however within the last year I have taken a liking to it through what is called the Ragnar Relay.
Ragnar is a 200 mile team relay race that usually takes place on a friday/saturday. You and your team of up to 12 people (we do 9, some people even do 6) run non stop relay style for a total of 36 legs. It usually takes about 30 hours to complete and I can honestly say is one of the funnest things I've ever done. The race is fairly inexpensive to participate in and anyone can do it. There are race locations across the united states that take place year round. So far I have ran Ragnar in Southern California and Las Vegas ( for Vegas they even give us a free suite in the venetian for signing up early). It's and unforgettable experience with your friends and can be a good way to motivate you to train while waiting to take the PRT, go to OCS, or just for general cardiovascular health.
Ragnar can also help your package by linking it up with charity work. I believe entrance fees in general are donated to charity but as a team you also have the opportunity to raise some $$ for the needy. For the southern California race my team raised about 500 dollars for the American Red Cross by obtaining sponsors through friends and family and next time we hope to raise more for a different charity.
So if you want one hell of an adventure, a cool way to raise money for charity, and to help your package by showing the boards you are one crazy mother, rally some buddies and give Ragnar a try. Message me with any questions, I'd be happy to help.
