Is anyone looking for a roommate in Corpus? I will be arriving on Nov. 7th for Primary. If anyone is interested, let me know.

Ask me about ninjas!
I'm headed down to Corpus this weekend, and still havent had any solid luck on finding a place, as have some of the other people in my api class. It seems as though there's been a rash of potential roomates punking out lately. Anyway...apartmentfinder.com seems to be a solid resource; I used it when looking for a place in pcola. I've looked into roomates.com before, but there are some sketchy people on there.

I lived in 2 different complexes in Corpus. The first one was "Sugar Tree" on SPID just North of the Oso Bay bridge. This complex should be on the off-limits list for the Navy. They are a bunch of rip-off artists, DO NOT SIGN A LEASE THERE.

The second place that I stayed was "The Beach Club" on Padre Island. This place is a lot better than Sugar Tree. The apartments are nice and are REALLY close to the beach. It is an easy drive to NAS CC and it is nice and quiet when you need to get some rest. The best thing is that the area is a lot more secure than what you are going to find anywhere else in Corpus. In case you have not heard, crime is a big problem in Corpus. My truck got robbed and vandalized to the tune of $7,000, and that was at a gated complex. If you don't have a car alarm already, get one. Get a gun while you are at it.

I would say the Island is a good bet.....if you get a roomate. At first I was worried about the comute because of the construction....but it really is not bad at all. Get a couple of guys and find a house or townhouse to rent, it will be worth it for the time you are here, especially if you are burned out on Apartments from college.

I think your best bet for a roomate is to find someone in your API class(or at API in general) to move in with once you get down here. but choose you roomate wisely....I almost roomed with a guy who Failed out.....(meaning, he/she will not help you study!). Try and find someone motiviated about the program.....

If you still needing a roomate when you get down here, just start talking to people, chances are they know someone who needs a roomate as well. I would not live alone for several reasons.....first, because you need to get the gouge.....if your roomate is a couple of weeks ahead of you, you can get pretty good gouge from them.
Secondly, you should not be a hermit, or you will hate life down here. Going out and having fun is part of the experiance (but know why you are here, to train, not to party, and limit it to Friday and/or Sat. only!). Finially, it's cheaper.

A house is definitely the way to go and DO NOT BE A HERMIT you would be amazed how much drinking buddies end up study buddies and sources of gouge. I fyou get a house make sure you have a good military clause ie one guy gets orders you all have the option to get out
