Hey, since I've been disqualified for flight because of my color vision, I want to have an idea of what MOS I can shoot for in TBS. I went to the TBS site to look at the requirements for other MOS's to see if they required normal color vision (mine isn't horrible or anything, fell just shy of the flight requirements). Some like Amphibious Assault Vehicle officer were listed as requiring normal color vision. Others that I know require normal color vision (like pilot) left that requirement out of the listing. So it got me thinking if they left it out of some of the other MOS. I'm planning to go for Armor or Intelligence if at all possible. If anyone can help me out with this that would be great. Thanks!

Check with your OSO he will be able to find out for sure, I wouldn't trust gouge on something like that. Just get the official word. As for armor or intel you should know that they give out about 1 or 2 armor spots per TBS class and even less intel spots. Be prepared if you join to accept what the Marine Corps gives you because with the quality spread you never know. TBS selection is like a box of chocalates you never know if you will pick the sh**y one.

It's all in the MOS Manual. Anything requiring normal color vision (such as 7208, 7210, etc) says so in the Requirements/Preqreuisites section. For basic pilot MOS's, it doesn't specifically say normal color perception is required, but it does say "Must meet the requirements of OPNAVINST 3710.7 and the USN Manual of the Medical Department."

MOS Manual is available on USMC.mil under Orders/Directives, MCO 1200.7Y.

thanks for the info guys, it really helped. As for the limited slots for Armor and Intel I'm well aware..guess I'll just have to be top of the class :) haha

The Intel slot (especially the TS/SCI clearance) will pay big dividends on the outside. If you can speak a foreign language, or have the ability to learn one, do it.

It's cool that I'm at school and when I typed in www.air... and the web browswer finished it - meaning someone else from school here recently visited the site from this lab :) Anyway... I was wondering, if you decide to go land and make it through OCS TBS yatta yatta do you get to pick your MOS or do they give you one?

Thanks,

The company is evenly divided into thirds (eg: 100 man company - 1st third = 33, 2nd third = 33, etc..) Everyone in the company lists their MOS choices from 1-25(?). I think it's 25 total for men and 19 total for women (women cant select combat arms). Then, the SPCs/XO/CO go through and assign an MOS based on your standing and how they think you'll fit in the role. The thirds work in to give the Marine Corps a quality spread. The first person in the first third goes, then the first in the 2nd goes, then the first in the 3rd. So for the example company it would look like this for two rounds: 1-1, 1-2, 1-3, 2-2, 2-2, 2-3, 3-1, 3-2, 3-3. get it? It's based on 1) the needs of the Marine Corps 2) your standing and 3) your personal preferance. Sometimes the companies have SNA/SNFO slots to give out, sometimes they dont. To qualify for these slots (and thus, allow you to list 23 vice 21 MOSs), you MUST have a valid flight physical and qualifying ASTB scores. Without these, you can't list 7599 or 7580 on your choices. Depending on the company, 0302 is usually easy or hard to get. The MOSs with the largest numbers are usually things like Comm-O, Adj, Supply and the like. Combat Arms usually don't have that many slots save for infantry.

Clear as mud?

cut and pasted from a previous MOS "selection" question I answered....that help any?
