Recruiter difficulties

Sweep the leg..
Hey guys, I've recently been experiencing the stagnant end of the recruiter relationship. I often call and e-mail him questions and so forth about my journey through Navy OCS amongst other things, and it repeatedly takes him quite a while to get back to me.

I have already done a search on AW and couldn't find anything that would be beneficial to my situation, so I'm turning to a thread of my own hoping to turn up some useful info. I was wondering if either:

A) anyone else has had trouble with their recruiter getting back to them in a timely fashion;
-or-
B) any of you who used to be recruiters would have anything useful to add.

I'm trying to get things done quickly so that I may head off to OCS as soon as possible and some of the questions I have about the application process/LOR topic aren't being addressed as swiftly as hoped.

Thanks guys.

When I first contacted my recruiter it would take his awhile to reply back to me, sometimes up to 4 days. Lately he has been fairly on top of it. I think some days recruiters just get swamped and can't respond quickly to every one.

In my experience recruiters did not give me their full attention until I had taken the ASTB. I had called and talked to a recruiter a couple times asking questions regarding BDCP and OCS. He did his job, he just did not seem enthusiastic about me. A couple times he took a couple of days to return a call or email. I took the ATSB (after driving an hour to his office) and then he seemed excited and prompt throughout my application process.

There are also other circumstances that can alter the recruiter/applicant relationship. Your recruiter may have many responsibilities. This could include traveling extensively, visiting schools and career fairs and dealing with official business. They also have many people applying or in waiting for OCS/Basic. You may have caught your recruiter in a tough/busy time. Don't go rushing to find his CO and start bitching quite yet. Communicate with your recruiter about best times to reach him and your true desire to join the Navy. If you still have issues try PM'ing Wink or Rocky first. I can imagine they have informal ways for dealing with issues rather creating a shit storm.

I don't know if this is the norm, but it seems to me like they make you play the waiting game a little bit to test your motivation/desire and patience. I could be wrong, but seems to me like they want to see how motivated you are and how much you're willing to endure to get where you want to go. No sense in putting a lot of effort into someone who's not totally committed. Could also be that he/she's just swamped, or might be just a bad recruiter. Seems like every now and then you'll find one of those. Just keep at it.

Thanks for your replies..they all came of some help to me.
I'll just keep diggin at it until I can show him how serious I am, and how truly committed I am to doing this.

Also, Rocky, thanks for your post..it always helps when you can talk to someone in the same field as where the problem(s) lie. I understand that I am not the only one he's communicating with, and since it's taking him around 5 days on average to get back to me, I'm sure he's busy with something else.

Thanks again all.

The other problem is, and hopefully you wont find out firsthand, that they have more than enough qualified applicants. I live in Norcal, and my recruiters great. I feel ur pain though. My Air Force Reserve recruiter gave me back my package and told me I would never get a interview. ( Just got back from my second interview.)

Thank you for the kind words. now tell your brother to get on the ball. :)
you all must realize we have many collateral jobs and responsibilities. I cover over 300K miles of real estate and deal with about 30 folks a week. In additions I have served as the department head and XO so I split my time accordingly. I am sure most of the senior officer recruiters are in the same boat so be patient if you are qualified and show intitiative you will get call backs. if you don't drive the problem don't be the problem!

^ SF/San Jose Recruiting has been really helpful for me... I made first contact on a Monday, took the ASTB on Friday, and had 80% of my package done that day with them, with pretty much all of the remaining work on my end.

They totally crapped all over the coast guard recruiters I've dealt with.
