Real quick question (NFOs and Whiting)

I'm looking for a house and have heard conflicting info. Do NFOs ever go to Whiting? I know a lot of people opt for the "30 min from each" doctrine when they know that they'll be spending time at each. And if NFOs Do have their primary at Whiting, would it be smarter to get your housing closer to there because its 13.5 weeks v. 6 at API? thanks anyone for your help.

NFO's do all their work at NAS Pensacola. Only the SNA's will go to whiting. If you're an NFO.. .live close to NAS. If you're an SNA, it's up to you where you live. I did the whole 30 from both thing. Worked pretty nice because it gave me time to wake up on the drive in, and time to decompress on the way home.

If you're confident on doing Primary at Corpus, live as close to NASP as you can during API. If you're confident on going to Whiting and then selecting Helo's at Whiting, live in Pace or Milton. The only drawback is an extra 15 mins driving to/from API, and downtown/beaches are a bit farther. Not a big deal for married dudes.

How likely is it for an SNFO to get a BOQ? I'm just starting TBS, would it help to apply (if I need to) now to increase my chances?

Just a thought...I concur with most of these guys...live as close as possible...but keep in mind that you may well be "at" API for much longer than 6 weeks. Not sure what wait times are running lately but....

Dude, if you have the option to stay off base, I would suggest you take it. Now, since I know that you DO have the option of living off base and getting paid for it, there is absolutely no reason why you shouldn't. Find someone to house up with and you can make a few extra buck while you are at it.

If you don't have furniture and don't plan on buying any or simply don't want to buy any, then you should look into vacation rentals. My buddy is staying in one for 600/mo, fully furnished, washer dryer, TV...a;; the works. The only drawback in my opinion is the fact that he is very far from whiting...but hey, he lives on the frekin beach! Also, that is just his share...he has a housemate. I kinda wish I had known about this before i signed my lease but its too late now for me. When you get done with TBS, make sure you talk to one of us on here about the whole trip down to p-cola. You want to get all the money you can out of your trip so you have to plan things out accordingly.

Right now, no one at NASC (SNAs and SNFOs) is allowed to stay in the BOQ (except Geo Bachelors)...you can get up to 10 days for house hunting but that's it. I believe a lot of the SNFOs live in Perdido Key...seems to be pretty popular and there are a lot of cheap funished duplexes for rent out there. It's roughly 15-20 minutes from the back gate.
