And now you've been turned from the dark side to the rigtheous fixed wing side.

I flight instruct now. It has made me realize I'm glad I going to the Navy and not the eventual route to the airlines. I've even turned a private student on to PLC and he just got accepted. Just spreading the good word...:)

I came into primary with 250hrs and an expired CFII. I find my previous flt time to be very useful in primary. I'm partially retarded, and I'm a very slow learner, so I needed all the help I could get.

I recently found out that I was pro-rec’d for SNA and I am trying to go to OCS as soon as possible… (As an aside, I cannot believe that I will have the opportunity to become a Navy Officer and a Naval Aviator… I consider myself to be very lucky). I will probably have 80 to 100 hours of civilian flight time when I go to OCS (depending on whether or not I get to go sooner than later). However, I just fly because I absolutely love it....

Flying is definitely an expensive habit though…. You know, Captain Ron, since you are BDCP, you could use part of the money that they pay you to make the monthly payments on USAA’s commissioning loan. It is an unsecured loan for $25,000 at a 2% interest rate. With $25,000, you could fly as much as you wanted too….

If you do take civilian flight lessons then do not be afraid to fire your flight instructor. I had a guy that would consistently bail out on me on days that we were supposed to fly. Also, despite my prodding, he would never provide me with any real feedback. I’ve got a new flight instructor now and I am able to get done in 3 hours what would take 10 hours with my old flight instructor… He is also not afraid to provide me with feedback and has never bailed out on a flight lesson…

Congratulations, man. It's a great feeling, isn't it? We are some of the lucky few who are getting a shot at not going to an office every day selling Dunder-Miffling products.

I doubt I'll be stepping into a plane again until after OCS. The only reason I would pay for a few flying lessons would be to have some fun. From what I've read on here, a few hours under my belt before primary probably wouldn't help me much.

Thanks… it definitely feels great. I actually still cannot believe that it has happened and definitely feel very fortunate to have the opportunity. I plan on making the most out of it by working my ass off.

I’ll make a point that everybody is probably aware of…. If you take a global perspective, I am certain that we are the luckiest people in the world. We live under a government that provides us with freedom, we will be a part of a team whose purpose is to protect our country and its ideals, and will be paid well to do something that we love. This is an interesting link http://www.globalrichlist.com/ … military officers may not be able to afford Ferraris, but they are wealthier than 99% of the global population (yes… I am aware that the cost of living fluctuates quite drastically amongst countries).

I am hoping that I can get a final select quickly. I already have MEPs done and very recently found out that I got the PRK eye waiver… The PRT was one of the first things I did with the Navy recruiter.

It's true man. I just got back from Jamaica and I'd never step foot in that country again. Every minute or so you've got another drug dealer trying to sell you something, somebody trying to sell you something they made like a necklace, or an old man just simply begging for money. The police have no power there either and most of the houses I saw on the side of the road were literally broken down little wooden shacks. Sad, really.
