Quick Question from Possible MECEP Marine

Hey all, I briefly browsed the board and didn't see an answer so I shall ask here...

The MARADMIN came out announcing openings in the MECEP Program. I am thinking of do a package in addition to my Reenlistment Package just to broaden my options.

I'd like to go Aviation so I would like to ask if anyone knew a "tentative timeline" for the F-35B being introduced into the Corps. as well as what year it would be logical for the Marines to start training for the aircraft? I am looking at school for 4.5-5 years from now and the additional 2.5-3 for training after college, so I am looking at 6-8 years til I could even be winging. Seem to be in the zone?

Also, any lil tips from fellow Marines who are doing MECEP or any Mustangs who went MECEP would be greatly appreciative. E-mail: GriffinBrad@Hotmail.com.

I dont think anyone even the contractors can answer the F-35 question but a wise man once said never fly the A model of anything. I think some optomistic contractor would tell you that it iwll be online base don your timleline but dont believe the hype, you will probably transition to it if you end up as a Harrier or Hornet guy but realize there are really no bad choices good luck

The F-35 production slipped a bit and I believe it is now due to reach IOC (Initial Operating Capability) in FY-10. Been awhile since I was up on these schedules. This will be the largest contract ever executed by DoD (> $300B). I would have no reservations about flying it as this is the number 1 program in DoD and a hell of allot of attention and the latest technology are going into it. Don't forget... the USAF is still flying the A-10A.......baddest airplane ever made and still on the model "A".

I have peers from school who work for both Lockheed and NAVAIR... Forget it man, they have not even began to tackle that problem yet.

I may have an answer for this question,
From what I have been told by the CO of a wing in Okinawa
The F/A-18D in the Corps will eventually be replaced by the Joint Strike Fighter. First deliveries scheduled for 2010.
He has been in the Corps for 18 years and is an F/A-18D pilot.
I trust in his word. But also remember, the Ospry was to be allready in the Corps as well, and now it is under RD, so anything is possible. The only thing certain is change.

Well, as per my original posting it is all a moot point.

In a month or two I am being Medically Discharged. But... with good evaluations from my command and it is not a debilitating injury. (Just Squids covering their asses)

So now it is either off to school or back to law enforcement. I have briefly spoken with the OSO back home and suprisingly the Transitions Rep is a retired Marine Officer so I am told I could get back in. It will be a FIGHT to get it but it can be done. Which does not bother me as I had to fight 7 months just to go Enlisted. So I know the motions for the most part. Just this time I am also enlisting the aid of politics as our state as a Senator and a Congressman on their respective Arms Committees.

So now I just have to choose between one goal or the other... not an easy task when I will regret not doing the other regardless of my choice LOL.
