question about PLC

hey everyone i had a few questions about plc. im a senior in highschool and i enlisted in the USMCR as a 2311 (ammo tech) and and most likely shipping in early january. i was told if i could get a college acceptance letetr i could attend a year of college (therefore i would be in the split entry program) so i plan on doing that. also i was then told if i attend college full time i could enroll in PLC to become an officer. sounds great really. and im pretty sure its all true considering i've heard of several accounts of this.
my question is, if i get accepted would i go to my MOS training the following summer after my freshman year of college or attend officer training (6 weeks long) or BOTH?? really all i want to be is a marine. so don't think im some kid slbbering over becoming a jet jock, hell throw me in a helo. (if i got that right) so its not about the flying, i could become a ground officer if i wanted..so hope u can answer these Q's. THANKS!

You will probably do your MOS training one summer and your FIRST 6 weeks of PLC juniors the next summer. The Corps officer training takes place in either two 6 week sessions or one 10 week combined. You can go the summer after your freshmen year, take a summer off, then go again for Seniors after your junior year. You can also go your Sophomore and junior summers. Im sure they can work it out for you. Talk with your OSO or find a Marine Corps Officer Selection Office in your area to talk with one. They can get you pointed in the right direction.

Welcome to Airwarriors and congrats on your DEP contract. The term "90 day reservist" comes to mind (if the recruiters still use this term), this is when you go to boot camp during your first summer at college, second summer go to OCS for 6 weeks OR go to MOS school, third summer go to OCS for 10 weeks if you went to MOS school the previous summer or do the 2nd 6 week OCS.

Keep in mind the military, especially the USMC, is real thin. You could be in the middle of a semester and the USMC could mobilize your unit for 6-12 (or more) months.

That being said get boot camp out of the way and when you get back, enrole in college and find the nearest OSO. Keep your goals in sight (pilot) even if you get mobilzed (worst case scenerio) and keep in shape.

You'll never regret the path you've chosen! I did something similar only I went the active route. 11 years ago this month I was also a "poole".

What E5B said. If you're in the reserves and in college before you get accepted into PLC (you have to apply and get accepted, it's not just "enroll" and you're in) you can be activated. Once you get accepted into PLC, you should be relatively "safe" from being pulled from deployments. I went to school with a reservist whose unit got mobilized after he had been accepted into PLC. He stayed in school and went to OCS while the rest of the Company went to Iraq.
Were it me, I would plan on doing MOS school next summer because you might not be into PLC by then. Even if you spend next summer doing something other than OCS, you'll still have time to apply again (and again if necessary) and get it out of the way by the time you graduate. Good luck.

so lets see, ok boot this jan, i have to get accepted into college to get the split program, (or was this what u talked about 'applying for'). alright so 'pretend time' so im in college i can apply for officer training, if i got it, could i still go to mct and my mos school the summer after my freshman year? or do i have to go to officer training? lol. pretty confusing. but u guys have helped. lets break it down
1.get into college
2. apply for officer training
3. if i get accpted do i have to go to that, or can i do my mos and mct that summer and finish the officer training in the following summer's?

alright i think we MIGHT be on the same page.

thanks in advance.

You don't have to go to juniors the summer after your freshman year. You can go between sophmore and junior year and then attend seniors the following summer. Or, if you were activated and deployed you could go to PLC combined in the summer between your junior and senior year for 10 weeks. OR, you could go to combined the summer after your senior year.

The long and short of it is: PLC is very flexible. You should have no problem fulfilling your reserve and OCS commitments and doing school.

"applying" I believe was in reference to the PLC application (no small feat) which you can only start after your first semester of college.

Good Luck and and Semper Fi, Doc

It might be different with different companies, but I had two close friends who I went to college with who were reservists too. They had both finished juniors and were waiting to go to seniors the next summer when their unit got activated. They had to go on their deployment. I might be wrong, but I think it can go both ways. Just wanted to add that expirence in there. I hope this won't be a problem in your case. Best of luck
