Just out of curiosity, does the Navy fly the MH-53? I know they fly the Ch version, but unsure about the MH

Thanks in advance!

Actually, the Navy only flies the MH-53 when it comes to that version of the helicopter. However if you are thinking of the MH-53J Pavelow which is the Air Farce combat search and rescue bird then you are thinking the wrong thing. The Navy flies the MH-53E which delivers cargo, functions as a mine countermeasures aircraft by towing a huge mine countermeasures sled and other things like that. It can do search and rescue but it doesn't have all the gucci toys and weapons that the Pavelow has.

The MH-53E can do search but we can't pick anyone up because of the rotor downwash, unless it is a last resort. I'm suprised the Pavelow does.

The AF usually uses the PaveHawk for CSAR, vice the 53. They're primarily overland, anyway.
