Question about MEPS

Okay so this is my first posting and just initiated the process to apply for a Marine Corps. flight contract. I am confident in my ability to do well on the ASTB and PFT, but I am concerned about an old injury and the circumstances leading up to the injury so please help.

In college I had a significant injury to my right elbow that required 4 surgeries to fix and is now fine. I lift weights regularly and can compete physically with just about anyone.

In between the surgeries I had a grand Mal seizure caused by an anti depressant I was taking for about a week. I came off the medication and have not had any problems since, I was apparently not depressed but the doctor thought I was due to symptoms I was having at the time. Is this an immediate dis qualifier for meps or can I get a waiver for this?

I am already applying for a waiver for my elbow since there is a small portion of a screw still left inside upon removal. It has been 4 years since the seizure and I am in the best shape of my life.

Please help!

IMHO, from what I have heard in other people's cases, what is important with your elbow is that it works like new, regardless of what has happened to it in the past.

For the anti-depressants: If you have been off of the medication for more than 6 months you should be eligible for a waiver. Any medical records you have will help the waiver process. If you no longer have any records you may have to get an evaluation done. Not really a big deal, just another hurdle to jump. Search for "waiver" on the search tool above and you will find all sorts of stuff on the waiver process.

There are a couple of flight surgeons on the forum who might be able to give you more info on how a history of seizures may effect you. Again, I would try the search function, you will probably find all the answers you need with a little digging.

Good luck on your application.
