Primary Start Dates

I was wondering if someone could answer some questions for me. My husband is checking into NASP Jan 3rd, and I've been informed from the API section of the forum, - as he doesn't have to do IFS, he'll be starting API 1-2 weeks after checking in. Does that mean after completion of API he goes straight into Primary? Or does he have a break? (Or is having a little break between the two a possibility?) We're expecting our third baby mid-May, and I just need to know if I'll have my hubby around or if I'll have to call in reinforcements? I know it's a long time away, but I need to start figuring things out! :)

Thanks ~

Call in reinforcements. There is no way to predict whether or not he will in between training during that time. Either way, he won't be free for large periods of time when you need extra assistance taking care of the other 2.

He should make sure that the staff is well aware of his situation. Different places might deal with if differently, but they might be willing to work with his start date depending on how close the due date is. There might be baby leave available to him once he has checked into his squadron, but if he has started taking 10 days off might not be very conducive to his training.

Like I said, keeping the staff aware of his situation will make everything go much smoother and people will be more willing to help. Good luck, and congrats on #3 - you guys are old pros by now.

Oh, and being a Marine its hard to know when he could start API - he might hop right in or it could be the good 'ol 5 month wait.

He also might not start API right away, my BF didn't need IFS and he waited 4 months, his friend waited 5 months. It changes all the time.

What devil_dog and HH said. I'm not sure if there are any pools right now at TW-5, but historically, they have held onto guys if their spouse is ready to pop. If it's not going to be in the next week or two (from checking in), though, I wouldn't count on a break until he actually starts the 10 days of baby leave.

Regardless, as mentioned, tell him to be communicating w/ STUCON throughout the process.
