Places to run in Pensacola

Still learning how much I don't know.

Ok, so I'm tired of the chip trail at NAS and would like to find somewhere else in Pensacola that has trails. I know that there are a few state parks, but is there anywhere I wouldn't have to pay and entrance fee?

I don't know if they are still around but I do know that UWF had a lot of trails a while back. Might be worth looking into, just watch out for the parking police!

UWF Trails

The UWF trails are pretty awesome. As much as I ran them I don't think I found all of them. Take a left off University at campus and follow the curve around to the parking lot near the library, left into that and a left all the way back towards the curve. Never had a problem parking there. Follow the little foot-trail along the road and look for the trailhead on the right. Follow that downhill, across a creek/bridge and to the first powerline slash. To the left there is another powerline slash about 3/4 mile away and trails bouncing between the 2 slashes. Right from the first pwr line slash there are trails that will take you near the power station or back to the library/library parking lot.

Have fun with the runs.

Concur on the UWF trails...ran them there in high school a lot. Lots to pick from, easy to vary the routes, etc. They're used regularly for HS XC meets.

UWF is good.

If you're feeling adventurous (and don't mind a little bit of a drive from NASP), check out Blackwater State Park.

Pensacola Christian. District champs for nearly 10 years (most of the panhandle). Usually did well at state (top 5 or so) but would get slaughtered by one team in particular every year there - name escapes me (grad HS in 1988).

Oh man, my buddy went to Pen. Christian! He was in the middle school and got kicked out after trying to escape multiple times! I was a tate grad in '04 and worked with the track team but I didn't go to any track events back when I was 3 years old so I prolly never saw ya run! haha :icon_tong

Goober,
Ah, didn't think I'd run into someone here familiar with PCH/PCA/PCC. I attended PCC.

Don't want to steal the thread though. Back to trail recommendations...

If you're looking to combine running AND boozing, you might want to look into a hash run (no, not that kind of hash). Go to www.gthhh.org and check it out. Always a great time...as long as you don't mind some extreme toilet humor. Different groups conduct their runs in different ways, but the idea is basically the same: The pack chases the hares, who leave a trail. I'd recommend wearing your brand new shoes, though, as the 'trails' can twist and turn, turning into a pretty long ass run. And there will be lots of beer at the end of the trail (generally speaking).

There is/was a big diff btwn the college and the high school (was in the 80's anyway). Much like the Navy, it's a small world; and you never know who you'll run into. :)

Are we talkin' MAINSIDE ???? (what they called it back-in-the-day) or ..... what ??? No need to respond directly ... as I'm 5500+ miles away and I'm not goin' running in P-Cola anytime soon ... just tryin' to understand you boys and the things that are important in P-Cola 35+ years after my big splash there ..... but I don't understand the conundrum ... where to run @ NAS Pensacola .... i.e., Mainside ... ????

How about ........ anywhere??

The trails at UWF are about the best ones around. One problem from about June-September, though. There are these mother-f*cking yellow flies that will tear your a$$ up from start to finish. They will swarm your head and arms, and you can literally poke them with your finger and they will just sit there and suck your blood. Haven't tried using bug-spray, cause I'm not big on sweating with all kinds of chemicals on my grape, so I just run through the woods like a retard with my arms flailing over my head.
