PhD Thesis

Just got this emailed to me from the local flying club that I'm a member of:

A fellow stopped by here last Friday looking for help gathering data for his Ph.D. dissertation. His study is pilots' pre-flight performance, and much more info about it is on his web page. He is looking for at least 180 people to take his 22 question survey. I've done it and there are no subterfuges or traps.
The club is NOT requiring your participation, and we don't even want to know if
you do or don't. It's simply inofrmation put out for your acceptance or rejection.
His URL is http://home.cfl.rr.com/preflightsurvey/index.html
The page includes an explanation, and his e-mail address is there if you want to
contact him.

Not sure if anyone would be interested in helping the guy out, but if you decide to help - he's looking for people who fly 2-4 seat GA.

The prereq for the survey is that you have flown solo in an aircraft. This seems very academic and well thought out, being that it's a PhD dissertation, I'd say help him out. The more data he has, the better his paper will be.

I'll have to wait till next week after my solo, as long as weather cooperates that is :icon_rage

My question is what the hell does he want to add to an airplane to acknowledge that it's prreflighted that's not going to cost $5000, weigh 50lbs, and get bypassed constantly?

It's a PhD thesis. I don't think he's in a position to get a new box installed on a plane - he simply identified something he potentially saw as a problem, and he's going to write about it. Then his paper will go into some deep, dark hole of academia and preflights will remain the same (and for what it's worth - I would assume that it would be a ground based station, it would make more sense to me at least).

Got it. I just didn't know if he was planning on engineering something and trying to make a ton of money off the government and pilots all while getting to be called doctor. Actually, that would be pretty smart. Maybe I'll try it.
