They just reopened a very small stretch of Pensacola Beach out on the island. THe restaurants right on the beach are still closed, and most of the island is still closed to tourists, the central part with all the shops and such is open. Other than most stuff is back to normal. The Museum on base is open. No reason not to come down.

I'll second bch. And go to McGuires for dinner. As far as real jogging, uh wouldn't know, I don't do it.

If you are military NAS has a nice chip trail that is about 8 miles long. I used to see it from my car on a daily basis during API... Sure looked like people were really enjoying it. I still prefer my car on a paved road though, rather than jog on a chip trail... go figure.

That used to be a nice trail, before the hurricane. Most of it is got washed out during the hurricane, so you can't run it anymore.

The 1/2 mile one across from the BOQ is open, but the run the pft on the paved 1/4 mile track now. The 8 mile one from the O-club is washed out.

WTF?? When did they switch to that? I'm only in Primary and now I'm already lamenting the sissification of API . . . :icon_tong

But now the staff can't use that stupid excuse about how the 1/2mi chip trail is supposed to simulate the forest floor after you've ejected from your F/A-18 . . .

I'm in API now, and had my PFT on 25 Oct, and we used the paved trail that day. Good thing, cause they'd just put a whole mess of new bark on the chip trail. When I did my indoc PFT for A-pool in June we still used the chip trail. I never heard the line about the chip trail simulating the forest floor, but it makes sense.

PilotCPB,

It depends on what part of Pcola you are in. Everything takes time to rebuild, but they are doing a good job. Maybe irrelevant, but just last week they completed the I-10 Eastbound Bridge over Escambia Bay. I think the latest figure was that Escambia County has 27,000+ houses that now have the blue roof.
Not sure how hotel vacancies are now, but you would be hard-pressed to find a place to stay overnight awhile ago.

In response to the chip trail discussion:

The chip trail next to the track was used this past week for the API PFT. Up until then, they were using the track for sometime. I will never understand though why they use the chip trail when the PFT Instructions say "flat surface or solid surface" and the track is right there.

The long chip trail, does that go by the lighthouse?
