I need to have my wife's Jetta checked out for some engine problems today or tomorrow preferably, and the mainside autoport is full today and closed tomorrow. The one at Corry doesn't have a mechanic.

Anyone have any suggestions for a shop out in town you had a good experience with and would reccomend? Obviously I'm trying to avoid going someplace that will try to rip me off. While we're at it maybe you could let me know of any place I should look out for that you had a bad experience with. Thanks guys

The VW dealer is located at 106 New Warrington RD across from Pete Moore Chevrolet (457-1000). He may not be the cheapest option, but depending on the complexity of work required you can know it will be done correctly.

I would not suggest Pete Moore to anyone. I've had numerous friends have terrible experiences with them not fixing things properly or other things breaking soon after a repair. Unfortunately I don't have a good alternative for you either because I do all the work on my own vehicles.

Do you have any idea what might be wrong with it?

I've read similiar things online about pete moore so I'm definitely not taking it there, thanks for the help though Fog. I have no idea what's wrong, it seems to be running fine but the check engine light has been on for a few days she said. The fluid levels were all ok and it's not making any unusual noises I can hear. If I can't find anywhere to take it we'll just try to minimize the driving time on it and take it to mainside next week when I get the chance.

If you take it to autozone or advance auto parts you can get them to run some codes on the car so you know what it is since the check engine light is on. It's pretty easy to do yourself but I don't know where the scanner plugs in on a Jetta.

If you let me know what year your Jetta is I'll look for the location of the OBDII port.

My daughter has an '08 Jetta wagon she got there w/ scheduled maintenance wrapped into the lease. She's had no issues, so I extrapolated that to include the world - not necessarily the case.

Autozone, O'Reillys...any of these guys will know what it is once they plug the diagnostic scanner in and read the error code, and they'll do it for free while the dealership will charge you around 45 bucks just to run the diagnostic (lesson learned). If it's something simple, like replacing an up or downstream O2 sensor, you can probably do it yourself.

OBDII port should be under the dash on the left handside. From what I read it's under there quite a bit.

My wife's 2002 Jetta had that damn light on from 82,000 miles until the Transmission went out at 145,000.

The repair shop said there are over 540 "diagnosic causes" for the check engine light...

Everytime it was "repaired" the light would come on again about 30-300 miles later.

Disconnecting the battery "resets" the memory of the on-board diagnostic. Not a solution, but things I learned along the way.

I've used Bob Cole, near the approach end of R/W 17 with no problems...he's a straight shooter.
