Over/Under

So, having zeroed out the credit card, maxed out the IRA, I'm looking to pick up a reasonably-priced over/under shotgun. The wife's agreed to let me pick one up, provided I don't go too overboard (< $1000) with the price. Looks are all well and good, but I'm concerned mainly with functionality and durability, as I'd like to both take it to the range and on the hunt. Any suggestions?

The Remington 332, it's a pretty nice shotgun, balances well and easy to pick up the bead while on the move. If I can recall correctly, I think the prices are about 1300 msrp, so I'm sure you could get it a good bit cheaper at a gun store.

If you don't mind looking at used firearms I've seen Ruger Red Labels, Browning Citoris, and SKB model over/unders (i.e. Ithaca, occasionally a Weatherby) for under a grand at the local firearm stores. If you can find one, a Browning Citori 16ga - on a 16ga frame - is one of the sweetest shooting over/unders I own. My wife told me I have to get her one! Hey any excuse I can get to buy a new firearm:D

Dehaan Shotguns have looked, felt and shot nice when I have had the chance to use them.

Made by Huglu in Turkey, very nice craftsmanship, especially for the price range.

Grandfather-ex-law has an s0 in 16 ga. Nice gun.

I'll give a plug for anything made by Huglu...good shotguns.

You won't confuse them for a Beretta or other quality gun particularly if you shoot a lot but they are good value. Brought two back from Incerlik in 93 and gave one to my brother.

Unfortunately, this purchase is probably going to have to wait until after I get back from WTI in April. Too many training ops to support, too few personnel to support it... The upside to going to Yuma (if there IS such a thing), is that I've got a buddy there who's a wizard with firearms, but has a special affinity for skeet shooting. I'll have him school me up in exchange for bribes of liquid refreshment.
