Just throwing this out there: anybody hear about operations research/industrial engineering?

I know it's looked down upon in many engineering schools, but frankly, I no longer give a flying f&&&. I've had enough of really busting my balls for a measly 2.7.

My question is, I've already heard if you've got even a vague interest in Navy technical programs after being a JO, you have to have an engineering degree. Does OR&IE count for that? Just really wondering if anybody knows anything about it...

We have an operations engineering program built into our ME program and industrial engineering is built into the reliability engineering program.

I cann't answer your question directly, but I can tell you that operations research (OR) is more a math discipline then it is a enginerring discipline, as far as studying it is concerned. It is sort of like ordinary differential equations (ODEs). Both ODEs and OR are taught out of the math dept, but when you get into the real world they are used in an industrial/engineering field.
Hope that helps some.

I started out in the school of engineering at my college for Industrial Engineering and Operations Research, and for a bunch of wacky reasons, ended up in the school of letters and sciences majoring in Applied Math with an emphasis in IEOR. I still got to keep my ROTC scholarship, and was eligible for the various technical programs at Navy PG School.

Oh Really, I'm an Engineer??

He he- j/k... I was across the quad in Phillips, but took the ORIE stats class... a bunch of people I knew then in ORIE were NROTC and AFROTC, so I imagine there's a future in it somewhere...

...Phillips? As in Phillips Hall? So you went to this godforsaken @#$%hole too huh?

And Rugger thanks, good to know I'd still be tech qualified. If I took the same damn school prereq weedout classes for 3 semesters, I want some damn credit.
