Ok so I know this is a Naval Aviation forum, but if anyone wants to read a great book about some of our Navy bretheren check out "Lone Surviror" its about the Navy SEALs who lost thier lives during Operation Redwing as told by the one survivor!

I did a search and didnt find anything, so I hope its not a repost, but it is a GREAT book!

I saw this at the NEX bookstore and was considering buying for the husband who's deployed. Now that he passed his HAC board he's got a little bit more time for things other than studying.

Maybe a little more of a review? Good points bad points?

I've already had to loan my copy out several times. An excellent story of some real heros.

I have bought the book, but have not yet had the time to read it. I remember when this happened and the acts of the civilians in the Afghan village are amazing.

If you start reading it good luck putting it down...haha....i read it in a day and a half. Just a great story about some wonderful american heros, I would hope that in such a situation I would be as strong! Definetly get it read it and send it to him. It really shows how much the media effects the way we fight war in todays world....pass it on, I have given it to two people so far both loved it! Just sent to my mother and father!!

I remember when this happened and the acts of the civilians in the Afghan village are amazing.

Unfortunately, I too remember when this happened. I found out about it through a link to a video Al Jazeera had posted on youtube. I have no idea how it got through the filters but around 2 weeks after it happened I saw a video of the bodies of Matt Axelson, Danny Dietz, and Michael Murphy as Taliban fighters rummaged through their gear and desicrated the bodies. These guys were shot up really bad, and there is zero doubt they fought every bit as courageously as they are portrayed in the book. They even went as far as to go through Danny's wallet, filming his ID card and family photos. It really made the war personal, and it filled me with rage. Some of the youtube members comments enraged me even more. They were all true heros.

* The video has long since been removed*

I finished the book in under a day. Being stashed it was the only thing on my to-do list. Very well put together, and I also have loaned it out many times.

I heard this guy on Glenn Beck a couple of weeks ago. He was telling part of the story. It was one of those times when I was about to get off work in the morning and the show was so good that I had to let a couple of speeders pass becaue I just couldn't stop listening.:icon_tong It was rather amazing to hear the guy talk about doing this stuff. He sounded so casual. Like it was nothing spectacular. Just like he was putting up the dishes or something. When in reality he was fighting for his life and watching friends die. Anyway, you can read the interview for youself if you wish. Couldn't find the audio, sorry.

I'll have to look that one up. Another one definitely worthy of a read (especially for helo bubbas) is Chickenhawk by Robert Mason. I thought that screaming over the desert at 50 feet was exhilirating. I haven't even been scratching the surface.
