I heard that Supply Corps bound will attend ODS instead of OCS in the near future. Is this true?

ODS is a bit more watered down than OCS. No DIs, some yelling and I heard that they got "sanded" a few times, but I don't believe it. We would always watch them in chow hall and you can tell the difference. ODS is only 5 weeks I believe, maybe 6, compared to the 12 week OCS program. ODS is mainly for staff corp, (JAG, doctors, lawyers, etc.)

I think the Medical and JAGs don't go to OCS but ODS instead because they are Staff Corps so it does make some sense if they decide to switch Supply to ODS instead of OCS.

Yes, they are restricted line, but in my opinion, it makes little sense. SC guys are starting off as Ensigns, supervising Sailors under their charge. The guys in the Medical field or JAG are specialists who get accelerated advancement coming in due to their knowledge and being general SME (I realize that's a wide brush i'm using). So while Doogie Howser or Johnnie Cochran can come in as LT's or such, the Supply guy could be anyone off of the street who will be in a slightly different leadership position then his Staff peers.

Fuck no. End of discussion.

What is the difference between OCS and ODS anyway?

Here's the difference: OCS is a 12-week program that culminates with the class getting commissioned as Ensigns in the Navy. ODS is a 5-week program where people are commissioned as either Ensigns, JGs, or LTs (depending on their program, i.e. ENS = nuke instructor, JG = JAG, LT = Dentists and Doctors) beforehand, then go through ODS to learn how to wear the uniform, military courtesies, etc. etc.

In summary:
OCS = you're treated like a piece of shit until you commission
ODS = a school newly commissioned officers (Doctors, Lawyers, etc) go through

(Can someone close this fucking thread?)

Restricted Line and Staff Corps are two different things. Supply Officers, JAGs and Docs are Staff Corps, not Restricted Line.
