NPQ at MEPS, Waiver Disapproved? Looking for options.

Was Pro-Req'd in April for SNA, but just got a letter telling me I was NPQ'd, and am wondering what (if anything) I can do.

A little background on the specifics (sorry for the long post):

First problem: 5 years ago I was injured at work and had some muscle trauma in my neck which caused a migrane that lasted for 9 months. It started off with visual disturbances the first day, but past that there were no visual problems. I saw a neurologist and was treated with muscle relaxants, and the headache dissipated. She wrote a letter clearing me, saying that she did not expect them to return. I've never had headaches before or since (that was 3 years ago). I was even able to renew my FAA medical just fine, after sending in the proper paperwork and documentation. At MEPS, the doctors questioned me about it, and looked over the papers, but didn't see any problem with it. After all, it was a one time occurrence, and hasn't happened since, and my doctor had stated she does not believe they will return.

Second problem: as a child, my parents got a divorce, and my father wanted changes made visitation/custody, so the courts assigned counselors to evaluate the situation and recommend what should be done. My father tried a couple of times, so I was sent to a couple counselors. Nothing ever came of it, and my father eventually dropped it. During all of that, my mental health was never in question, it was only to evaluate the possible impact of my father's requests. That was 10 years ago, and neither counselor has retained records for that long. I obtained the letters requested by MEPS stating all of this.

Anyway, the counseling was the only major concern the MEPS doctors had, and once we had turned in the letters we figured I would be cleared and be able to get my final select letter. However, today I got a letter stating the following:

"Based on a review of available medical information, subject applicant DOES NOT meet established physical standards due to history of prolonged counseling and history of daily severe headaches with visual disturbance.

"A waiver of the physical standards IS DISAPPROVED."

My question is, what can I do? What options do I have at this point? It seems like there is always a way, and I'm willing to fight for it, but I just don't see what else can be done. Any suggestions you may have are very appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help!

I have dealt with this as an OR, first question is did MEPS send you for a consult with a psych doc? I have overcome this issue with family counseling with a few of my guys, but it can take a while, one took nearly a year, and he had to shell out money for multiple evaluations to show all was fine.

The killer for you is the migranes, the current N3M doc views anything over a single occurance as a chronic condition, 9 months with meds would fit that, if they thought they might be willing to consider a waiver they would put "reconsider with further documention"

My personal opinion based on my years of experience is that the migranes have sunk you.

I think you are right. I've been doing a little more googling, and on further inspection the letter is from N3M, so it looks like I would have an extremely hard time overturning this decision. Thanks for your help!

Just wondering as well, is N3M over all branches of the military? Or just the Navy? I guess this is now on my permanent military record, but am just wondering if I were to apply for the Air Force, would I run into the same problem? Or do you think they would possibly give me the opportunity to obtain a waiver?

If anyone has any out-of-the-box ideas on how I can continue, I'm all ears ;)

Otherwise, you guys on Airwarriors have been great and I really appreciate the help and support you have given through all of the various posts and topics here! You probably don't know how much you've helped me, much less everybody else who visits. :) Thanks guys.

The USAF and USA have their own medical, but they may have a part that says "ever rejected for military service" so you would need to disclose, that being said I have had people rejected from the USAF that are now USN officers, and I have had people rejected by N3M that were accepted by USAF.
