Since there is no new member’s forum, I feel this was the necessary area for this post. I would first off like to introduce myself. My name is David, a 20 year old (21 on Feb 25th) from Southeast Michigan who is a future aviator. Since the age of 9, I've wanted to be a pilot for the US Navy since I saw a Tomcat go zipping past my head at 400 knots. As I went into Junior High though, I got involved with a girl who really messed up my life and my life’s plans. I went through some rough times (No drugs or alcohol. To this day, I am still clean. Haven’t smoked ANYTHING.), but I am now back on track, and working my way back toward my life’s dreams.

When I met this girl in Junior High, she, along with the death of my close grandfather who was former Navy, put me into a downward spiral of not attending school or doing my homework. I was too involved with this female to actually want to do anything, but spend time with her. But that is well gone and past me, as I am now in my 2nd semester of my freshman year at my local community college. At the end of this semester, I will be transferring to Western Michigan University to get my Bachelor of Science Degree, with a double major in Aviation Flight Science and Aviation Business and Administration. Even though I am fairly new to college, I have been speaking with Chief XXXX out of East Lansing, Michigan, which is how I found this site. For the last week, I have dug into every section and read over 500 threads on this forum. I have increased my knowledge by ten-fold, and further strengthened my dreams of doing this as my life career. I have 3 major hobbies, and those are cars, computers, and aviation. With a father who is pushing me into computers, I am still adamant on becoming a U.S. Naval pilot.

But I will close this thread now, but expressing my appreciation and gratitude for all who contributed to these forums with their valuable information, and for those who are currently flying for the U.S. Navy. I look forward to serving with you gentlemen in 4 years.

Good luck and welcome to the forum. I can tell you now going after a commission can be alot of work and often disheartening. However, don't forget what you're working towards. Its all worth it in the end. The day I took the oath is one of the happiest days of my life, as I'm sure yours will be for you.

Cheers,
Bubba

Thanks much. I will need it. I know what I am going for, I know what I have to do, and I am willing to do anything and everything to get there.

Bubba - Nothing can bring me down, not even OCS. No matter how much work or effort is needed, I am willing to put it forth.

Also, should I be warned about Brett? lol

No, Brett is an all around good guy and an experienced NFO. But he is also the board's, how to put this nicely, "masogynist". If you comb through the archives you will most definitely run across a few times where he has gotten into some trouble with the womenfolk on the boards over some comments he made. More than anything, my comment about Brett was a joke. You may have noticed we trade a lot of jokes. Welcome Aboard!

I've seen a few of Bretts posts about converting people over to the "darkside" lol. And as a joke, I think the word your looking for is "misogynist" :D With my current girlfriend, I told her that she is currently second, and will always be second to me. I told her that my school comes 1st, then her. Then as soon as I go to OCS, Navy and Navy life comes first, then her. The best thing about it, is she completly understands and supports me on it. I also told her if she doesnt like me being away for long periods of time in the Navy, she can just leave me now because i could careless what she thinks of my lifestyle. I also told her no kids or getting married till after I am in the Navy for awhile and settled down, possible even when I am out.

lol Brett, dont worry. I know women are evil, so thats why I stick to cars and aviation; 2 things most girls hate.

firefriendly - I would say I have her "whipped". I can get her to take me out to lunch or dinner and to pay, even with my getting a nice steak.

As a women from the Spouses Forum...welcome!

And we're not evil, we just like to give our opinion. :) Besides, I know Brett just says things to stir the pot, or cast a line out to see who will bite.

I hope Airwarriors turns out to be heaps of information and advise. Good luck with becoming a Naval Aviator. My husband loves what he does, and like you wanted to fly since he was a small child (though that was jets, and now he wouldn't do anything but helos).

And interesting comment on having your girlfriend "whipped". (Brett, feel free to insert comment *here*)

No, he doesn't have access. But, there have been women who have posted out here in the public forums and have had "encounters" with Brett and his opinions (which aren't always bad/wrong/whatever) and have thought that he was being harsh, or just arguing for arguments sake when they feel they have posted information that has been credible.
