It'd been ages since I'd visited the airwarriors.com site so I decided to check it out. Imagine my surprise when I found a forum here instead of the site. I just wanted to introduce myself and say hi. I'm slowly getting closer to taking my first few steps toward becoming a pilot and I think this place'll be a great help. I guess I could start off with my first question:

Does anyone have a good link with some information about PRK waivers? I want to know things such as how hard it is to get one, when to apply, requirements, how long it usually takes to get accepted, etc. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Oh, and if anyone's interested in a @flynavy.net email address, let me know. I don't have a site up yet, nor an email server, but the domain is mine and once I get everything working right I'll be giving as many people as I can (probably about 50 depending on how much I can spend on hosting) email addresses. So far the only one taken is my own, michael@flynavy.net.

I personally can't answer your question about eye waivers, but I'd recommend you start by doing a search of the site/forum. There's a ton of info here, just a matter of sifting through it.

Are you active duty navy? I just had the PRK procedure one month ago. I was the first pilot in my squadron to have it done. I went from 20/80 to 20/15 as of two weeks ago. Maybe a little better now. I have an eye appointment tomorrow and maybe I can find out a good site to check out for some good PRK info.

The Navy had to do it and I waited for about a month before I had the surgery. As a pilot, the flight requirements are 1000 flt hours total with 500 in type. It wasn't hard to get approval from my skipper but obviously that's going to depend on your particular CO. An optometrist must also sign the request form after a thorough eye exam and only if he determines your eyes qualify for the PRK.
