Was down at Wings P-Cola, and heard there was new gouge coming out for Primary with Bi's, RI's and all discuss items. Word is that it will be almost all encompassing with explanations. It hasnt come out yet, but they said in a few weeks.

The best gouge that I got in primary was called the "FTI" and "NATOPS". Guess what, they are even free!

That's all great and all, but when the IP hands you a NATOPS or SOP and asks you where you found your info.....

So many people get so spun up about finding "the magical, all encompassing gouge." Those are usually the people who understand the topics the least. You want good solid info, that is reliable, and will ensure that you have a solid understanding of that topic and how it relates to other topics.... FTI and NATOPS.

AFTER pouring through NATOPs and the accompanying pile of books, I always found the gouge was the best place to help me catch what I missed (aw, sh!t factor), and for the crap that isn't in the NATOPs. Then again, T34 NATOPs is light reading compared to the P3 NATOPs....

Seriously....it's about a third the size of the T-45 NATOPS too (granted, the P3 is even bigger). But if you go through primary using gouge, then expect to be able to continue that trend, you're sorely mistaken. Gouge exists in Advanced, but it's not as plentiful or as elementary. Just get used to reading a fat NATOPS now so when you don't have that crutch, you'll be ok. Gouge is fine, but it's only SUPPLEMENTAL to NATOPS and the FTI.

then there's the tac-man...both of them, and the job aid, and if you're really into self inflicted pain, digests!

sometimes i wish i were illiterate, then maybe they'd just let me fly the plane :icon_smil

Unless you're talking about the Aero, Engineering, EP, and INAV gouge... thats not a crutch it's a big comfy chair!

I don't really consider it 'gouge' when they tell you the test in the test review... who knows. But EP gouge, I dunno about ya'll, but we need to know them verbatim, and the only gouge for that is NATOPS. Sure theres lots of info floatin around, but not as much printed, standardized gouge as there was in primary.... atleast not for phase 1

I've never found anything surprising in any of the gouge i've used. it's mostly just a convenient compilation of information from all the varying sources (this is in regards to primary gouge). half the gouge for API was worthless...especially since all the questions are listed in the beginning of the chapter. i guess gouge could be really useful if you're too damned lazy to read all the pubs.

I wouldn't call it LAZY, just efficient.

Patmack, isn't that the only gouge to have! Very thankful here for it.
