Thought this was pretty cool. From http://www.iowanationalguard.com.ny...amp_Dodge_Story/CDstory/LibertyStatuepage.htm

"On a stifling July day in 1918, 18,000 officers and soldiers posed as Lady Liberty on the parade grounds at Camp Dodge. According to a July 3, 1986, story in the Fort Dodge Messenger, many men fainted-they were dressed in woolen uniforms-as the temperature neared 105 degrees Farenheit. The photo, taken from the top of a specially constructed tower by a Chicago photography studio, Mole & Thomas, was intended to help promote the sale of war bonds but was never used."

Now that is a formation I'm glad I never had to stand. There are some on that site that required 30,000 men! I definitely wouldn't want to be the one to tell everyone that the photos weren't going to be used.

Kind of reminds me of that beer commercial with all the dudes running in different colored clothes, ala Braveheart. They pan out, and it's a formation of a pint glass, pouring down into a formation of a guy's stomach. Too early, back to bed.

We do that on the flight deck with sailors in white on occasion to commemorate a special occasion or send a message...
