I'm currently studying for the ASTB and I've found a lot of good info on the aviation sections but I'm having a little harder time finding information I may need to know about the nautical stuff. I am coming from a background with absolutely no technical experience and need something that will point me in the right direction. Also, how important is the mechanical aptitude section. I know a few tools, but not nearly what the ARCO book says I should. Any suggestions?
 
I found some great basic nautical information on boatsafe.com, color pictures and everything. Don't try the coast guard website, too technical and a waste of time. Boat Safe said the same thing in a reader friendly fashion.
