Need info about Pensacola

So I 'm going to be done with summer classes at Embry Riddle. Thank God. School is really starting to suck. Anyway my parents are coming down to see me after my classes are done, and we wanna go to NAS Pensacola. Does anyone know if their are any tours of the actual base or is this pretty much off limits to civilians. I have aspirations to be a naval aviator and I wanna see some of the cool stuff that I might expierience.

No, NAS Pensicola is not closed to the public. The National Naval Aviation Museum is located there and the National Park Service (I think, it might actually be the state of Florida) maintains one of the Civil War era forts that used to gaurd the mouth of Pensicola Bay. In addition, the Blue Angels practice there during the week before heading out to do airshows, typically on the weekends and the public is allowed to watch. I'm fairly certain they don't do base tours, but then again, I never had a whole lot of interest in staying on base any longer than I had to during API.

It is the National Park service and as the ranger instructed me this weekend....no Dogs allowed. The Fort and Museum of Naval Aviation are the places to spend your time. They also have IMAX movies at the museum. I would budget 5 hours total time if you are going to see the whole museum, and the Fort. Recommend lunch at the Cubi Point Bar at the museum. Dinner at McGwire's, and make sure your parents take you to Sammy's next door for a nightcap.

I'd recommend going down to P-Cola Beach. Sample the local flair and get Crabs. All good fun.

I recommend you go visit the old OCS stomping grounds. Perhaps hit up the SUYA, have mom and pop man the hose, and slay yourself!

Thanks guys for the info. I think I am definately going to make the trip even though gas prices are going to be $5 a gallon when I go I think I'm definately going to be making the trip. After wall it what I aspire to do with my life and you can't put a price on that. Still if anyone can confirm whether or not they give base tours I would really appreciate it. By the way does anyone recommend which Motel there is nice to stay at. You see mom is like a germ a phobe and if the place place doesn't pass the white glove test she won't stay there.

They don't give base tours.

As far as hotels, check out stuff in downtown Pensacola. Pretty nice place to stay and you're within walking distance to the restaurants and close to the beaches.

We recently stayed at the Suburban Extended Stay for $67 a night through Priceline (VERY Close to NAS). It was suprisingly a large clean and comfortable room. They have a pool & laundry with a very friendly & helful staff. If you don't want to stay near the base, then you'll find a large selection of hotels near I-10.
