I'm not bustin your balls, just hoping that everyone understands that flying is about 1/3 to 1/2 of the work to be done.
Whenever you get a new job you should get a passdown from whoever had that position before. They will brief you on whats expected and most of what to do. Some jobs you will get special training for, i.e. safety school. If you don't get a passdown or a school you will have to hit the pubs and figure it out. In any case the enlisted will be the ones getting it done so learn from, and take care of them. PRESS!

Great explanation... Anyone here get their Master's Degree while they had shore tour? I was curious as to how you are to schedule your classes at a local college, when the Navy gives you no set schedule (a schedule is not expected). I guess my question pertains to if the Navy or your CO takes into account that you are registered in a graduate school (Not NPS) and you have a certain schedule for that school to follow. Thanks again for your input.

I have read of a few pilots who have gotten their graduate degrees (Bogeys and Bandits, great book, read it cover to cover). I think to become a test pilot you have to have gone to graduate school.
Check out that book if you haven't ever read it. It follows a group of Hornet students from VFA-106 (the RAG) to the fleet. Im not a huge reader either. Another good book is Air Warriors.

Don't forget the jobs that can send you to Leavenworth: CMS (Communications Security), CMCC (Classified Material Control), or just regular jail (HAZMAT). :) And to echo Frumby: my primary on-wing was the only survivor of a Phrog crash, lost 2 Phrogs on my first float, mid-air between a Phrog and a Cobra on the second (Scotty & Joe were attached to us (HMM-266) when it happened), and one of my buds up here at Whiting flying a T-34C a few years ago. All BS aside, its a dangerous profession so fly safe.

Read both books from front to back. I have been in the BDCP for well over 2 years now, so preparation is a primary objective right now.
