. . . and she's a beaut. CMP claimed 30-45 days, and then delivered in a week and a half.

The wood is brand new; it's got a CMP cartouche on the pistol grip. I'm surprised at the thickness of the front handguard as well. It's a good 1/8" thicker at the bottom than the drill pieces I remember from ROTC. I wonder who their supplier is. Methinks a refinishing is in order; the factory coat of linseed oil or whatever they use looks a trifle blotchy and tiger-stripey in places. Overall, looks to be a post-Korea armory queen. Just gotta wait for the ammo to arrive so I can see how she shoots.

Make sure the bore is cleaned before the first shot.

Nice rifle.

Beautiful weapon, definitely one I'd love to own someday.

What CMP grade is it?

Service Grade. There's a disclaimer on their website that Service Grade rifles may come with new wood; methinks that way they can still get good money for ones with good bores but bad stocks.

Now I need to find M2 ball or the equivalent, as the CMP is backordered to a fare-thee-well.

Awsome stuff I love the color on that stock though mine is the darker wood. I actually finally got all the cosmoline out of mine and got her all put back together and 4 stipper clips of ammo loaded and ready to go. Need to call my sherriffs buddy from church to see when we can hit their range.

I am going to have to be at Dobbins to mobilize so I was thinking of hitting Anniston the day before to pick up a M1 Carbine and some more ammo since its only an hour and a half from the base. Unless theres still a gas shortage
My economic stimulus check is going to go towards help paying for a Gun safe to keep the arsenal in. Im going to go with the AMSEC BF series rather than spending 4k on a fort knox one.

Great choice. Mine came with a pretty beat up stock, but it shoots great so I don't really care.

That was the only disappointment I had with mine; I'd almost have rather gotten an original stock. CMP actually stains the wood on the new stocks, but they're birch which is a BITCH to stain right. They didn't and the blotches won't come out. I gave up and bought a walnut stock for mine. 4 coats of BLO later, I started using something I found called "Gunny Paste."

To wit:

Equal parts beeswax, turpentine, BLO. Melt wax in a double boiler and add the rest before taking it off heat. Stir well and put in an old shoe polish tin. If you rub it into the stock, buff with a towel and let it dry, it comes out superb.

FWIW, I think the term you're looking for is "en-bloc clip". A "stripper clip" is what's used to load an M1903 (among many other rifles with a built-in magazine).

En bloc:

Nice rifle.

Concur. I've shot "Fly Navy's" M1 a few times. If that thing sits for any period of time the casing always gets jammed from even the lightest traces of corrosion.
