More primary at Whiting (AF)

Please save all boo's and heckles for end. Currently enlisted AF at Hurlburt and finally got my UPT assignment. Starting primary at Whiting in November. Hard to complain about getting UPT right in my back yard down here, but have some concerns about it coming from the Air Force side.

It really seems like I've been setup to go to Corpus and on to 130's, which I'd rather go to Helo's. (Long story, but I have my reasons.) Lots of guys say the Navy program through Whiting is a good gig for an AF guy, but when I ask the question about going to something other than 130's out of there, they don't seem as enthusiastic. Granted, we are supposedly eligible for the same thing as anyone at the other AF primary bases, but is there anywhere to check the numbers as far as what AF guys are getting for track select?

I have no idea the AF selection stats out of Primary, but Whiting has VT-3, which is a joint Navy/Air Force squadron, which is why it is a good deal for you to go there.

I went through VT-3, and my onwing was an Air Force A-10 type. There were plenty of guys selecting T-38s at Vance out of there. If you go VT-3 and select AF jets, you'll do 6 more flights in the T-34 with AF standup briefs, etc. to "re-Air-Force" you before you leave. No idea how it compares to the other AF bases, but it definitely happens.

Nittany: Thanks for the info, makes me feel a bit better. All I ask for is a fair shot at it, and if I can get that at Whiting I'll be more than happy with that! Going go Whiting, I don't even have to move from where I live being stationed at Hurlburt!! Good to hear they stay on for some "bluing" before going off to Vance, too.

Here is what I've found out about T-38 drops...

Based on my research (speaking with guys who have completed the program) about Whiting vs. the other UPT bases, if you want a T-38, then go Whiting. With the exception of ENJJPT, Whiting seems to offer the highest 38 percentage drops for us AF guys. Basically, have an NSS (scoring method) of 55+ and they will find you a Talon.

Just be ready for the transition to Vance. That's the kicker.

As far as actual #'s per class for track select, I've just been told to keep the NSS up and it will be a high likelihood that you go Talon (if you want it).

I knew one or two AF guys who wanted helos and got them. I never knew of anyone who wanted AF helos but didn't get them.
