Miramar/Escondido/LaJolla/Carlsbad/etc

Looking for a good place to live. Anyone in the area have any recommendations or have a place to rent? My wife and I would probably be looking for either a house, or maybe a condo. Preferrably with a private garage (and a pool would be a bonus). Some good leads on craigslist, but I'd like to hear what the good convenient areas to live in are (for someone commuting to MCAS Miramar). Thanks!

I'd choose Carlsbad if it was me. The Pizza Port is there, and they brew some damn fine beer.

Pizza Port = Awesome. It's always so efing busy though. I guess that's just proof...

Being married and living around Miramar, I say La Jolla, particularly University Towne Center is the place to go. Carlsbad is nice, but that 5 freeway traffic will get you. Same thing with Escondido, except it's with the 15 freeway. Plus you're within easy access to the beaches and you have tons of stores/shops within walking distance. PB is probably a 10 minute drive and going downtown to the Gaslamp is about 15.

Married? Scripps Ranch or Tierrasanta. Very close to Miramar, much less expensive, much lighter commute traffic, relatively. Quiet bedroom communities, yet close to everything. 10 - 15 minutes.

Single? As close to the beach as possible. OB, PB, La Jolla, Del Mar, Carlsbad, Cardiff, etc. (Who cares about the traffic or the expense!)
