question for any sna/snfo who've had prk and gone through meps....did you have to do the chart reading cyclopleiged (sp?) or do they only do that at the nami physical at ocs. i still have a significant disparity between my "relaxed" vision and what i can focus to. thanks for any info/comments.

If you got PRK, you will have to get a consult with a specialist after the normal MEPS physical. For me this was at Ft. Sam Houston in San Antonio, probably not the same place as you will go! I'm not sure what they will test you at there.. but.. if your eyes arent ready.. they will know. It takes some time, my eyes took several months to heal completely.

so if you got PRK you will not have your eyes checked at MEPS? You have to go to a specialists to check out your eyeballs? Can you go to MEPS before your waiver waiting period is up? When, where and to who do you submit your med docs?

Thanks,

Steve

I had to wait for 90 days after PRK until I could go to MEPS. Seeing that PRK is disqualifying /period/ not just for Aviation, they would not pass my physical without an opto consult saying everything looks cool. This is unrelated to the aviation specific waiver I belive, and has more to do with that fact that even if you want to be a supply clerk, PRK is a waiverable PDQ. So, yes, they have to look at your eyeballs before the will process you through MEPS. Your recruiter should be the one you submit med docs to, and he will send them down to MEPS with your other paper work.

This is just what my experience was, dont take it as blanket policy, just how it went for me.

i dont know if this has been asked before, but are you required to wear glasses in pilot training if you're say 20/20 in one eye and 20/30 in the other or how does that work?

Dude, I haven't been on this site in a while. You guys come up with the darndest questions these days! I don't know, dude. You might be the first guy to wear a pair of glasses with one lens popped out. Maybe your callsign will be "one-eyed warrior."
