Hi Everyone,

I am a new member of this site. Lots of really helpful information on these threads so thanks to everyone.

I am finishing up a PhD in molecular biology and have a desire to do my part to serve my country. The career page of the Navy website talks about medical science officer jobs as part of the Navy Medical Corps. I have spoken with a recruiter about this position but he doesn't have much information about the program. Is there anyone out the who can give me some more info or steer me in the right direction? Thanks in advance for any help.

You need to talk to a medical programs officer recruiter, each NRD is supposed to have one, they are generally a nurse or a Medical Service Corps officer, they should have the answers and if not they do know who has the answers.

NavyOffRec: Thanks for the advice. I have shown the recruiter I have spoken with the web page and he is going to contact the program to try and find out some more info for me.

OUSOONER: By NFO do you mean Flight Officer? From what I can tell the job is a research and development based position within the medical corps.

Bret327: What is a P-3?

I am really interested in hearing from anyone who has served in this role. Thanks for the replys.

I've seen all I need to see here..my questions were answered.

MattEck: I was taking a jab at NFO's. I try to as early and often as possible . A P-3 is a high performance tactical multi-engine sub killer. The Jewel of the fleet.

The recruiter should have asked you for a copy of your CV and transcripts so they can send them to the specialty leader, if not that recruiter might be new, ask them what their job is if they aren't in the medical field you are probably talking to the wrong person.

I think you're talking about one of the MSC (medical service corps / miscellaneous service corps specialities - PA, aviation physiologist, administrator, PT, psychologist, microbiologist, etc, etc) specialties. Some of them have hard and fast requirements, and some of them not so much.

I'm doing a buddy a favor and staffing a table with a recruiter at a career fair - if you shoot me your email I'll send you each field's requirements.

The recruiter going with me has supposedly been doing officer recruiting for a couple years, but isn't so knowledgeable about some of the staff specialties. I like to think I'm there as the voice of reason, so it may be the last recruiting event I'm allowed to attend for a while.....
