But its cool - I like how the Marines are doing stuff like this for the sole purpose of generating social media content. Smart move. Gets visibility to the American public and builds support. Now if we could only get dedicated type specific Air Show teams - like the AF does.

I guess I fail to see what cool about burning a bunch of gas and hours for a photo stunt that the average civilian is unable to put into context anyway. Think of the meetings leading up to that thing. Think of the entire MAG (or multiple MAG’s) taking one or more days off flying to get enough aircraft PMC to be able to start and taxi (and most of them takeoff). And due to the editing, it looks like all of Miramar could manage nine shitters that can get airborne? Neat.

Given the amount Osprey crews involved in this picture... I just want to hear the clown show of a RIO that occurred....

God forbid we take a little time to make ourselves look good. I actually think it's pretty cool and impressive to see that many aircraft.

From the sound of your post, you must really be fun at parties.

I’m a blast at parties. Thinking back to my many months of low single digit flight hours in the fleet, it would have sucked to get roped into a dog and pony show that prevents squadrons from using their planes to actually train. If they want to look good, then maybe organize a large scale assault support exercise and use all those ospreys and shitters to move a battalion, and film the crap out of it. But I guess that would involve actually being good rather than looking good.

The amount of work and planning that goes into flying the barn is immense. i.e. holding planes out of phase, canning the shit out of your down birds to make up planes, not flying required Xs to keep up birds. And for what? A photo op? All those crews in that photo would be better served by knocking out 3 hours of DIV CALs rather than posing for the MAG commanders glamour shot.

It would be pretty awesome if they had to fight a lava monster at the end of the video.
All the MAG’s lava monsters were down for depot level repairs and waiting on the artisans to fabricate new parts since the OEM went out of business during the budget cuts of the Clinton years.
